The really funny ones pronounce it like it's a 'soft' c. Like Basson.

One clerk gave Colin his card back and thanked "Mr. Gravez" for shopping. Colin blinked, looked at his card, gave the clerk the stink eye and said "It's Graves. As in where you go when you die."

People screw up my name sometimes. They use a soft "c" instead of a hard "c". Drives me nuts so I understand your frustration.

With me, I don't even bother to wait for them to get it wrong anymore. When asked my last name, I say it then spell it out, "Cattle. C-A-T-T-L-E."

It just rolls of the tongue now.
