HAHAHAHA I've been waiting for this day SINCE THE BEGINNING. Since DAY 1 when I was still a squabbling baby in the arms of mama meme.
Of course I will be doing DIM
DIM was the first album I bought and my friend Skye got for me at Kinokuniya and it's First Press Limited Edition~ Holographiiiic!!!
「剥離」★★★★☆
The instrumental tracks on this album were extremely overlooked in my play lists. It's only been recently that I've started to enjoy instrumental only music tracks... Hakuri caught my attention during DIM SCENE-09-. Well, it did before as well, since it was the first song on the album I listened to, but I didn't start to like it until I could put a visual to it. I feel this is the strongest of the instrumental tracks, and a good opening for the feeling of 'DIM'.
THE INVISIBLE WALL★★★★★
This song will never be a top ten favorites, but I do like it. It's one of my favorite PVs, and I enjoy the images the music itself provides in my head. The only thing I don't like is that Ruki's voice becomes weirdly pitched in some parts of the song when he's singing in English that doesn't happen (that I've noticed) in other songs. I don't mean his accent, just the pitch. Even though it's heavy, I consider it a 'slow' song. Er... well, actually gazette should have 3 categories. 'Heavy-fast', 'slow', and 'uhh...this category'. It should be in the 'uhh...this category'.
This song was possibly the first song I noticed how strong Kai's drumming is. You can't really hear the preciseness of it in other songs as well as you can in this song.
A MOTH UNDER THE SKIN★★★★☆
When I first listened to the CD I got MOTH and CHAOS mixed up.. They're like the same song, only really not. On the CD I like IN THE MIDDLE OF CHAOS best, but live I like MOTH. And since I heard Ruki announce the song on DIM SCENE-09-, I say it 'Moss' xD cause that's how I hear it in my head. If someone said 'oh yeah I like 'Moth'.' I'd probably be like *wonders what song that is...* Once I sat down and listened to this song with the words, I grew to like this song, but like songs like REGRET, I never realize I like them till I've been listening to them for a while. Even though the bass lines are just... unf <3 <3
LEECH★★★★★
I love this song! I didn't like the PV for the longest time because of the contrast and how you can't really see them that well, but I grew to like it a lot. I love that this song's really fast and hard. I laughed a lot when Ruki sings 'baby' in the song, though it was a long line of confusion since the Lyrics are different and says 'the president'. *shrugs* I like this song Live a lot too. My favorite performance was probably the Peace&Smile Carnival because I like Ruki's scream at the beginning.
泣ヶ原★★★★☆
I do not like this song. It feels slow to the key of slugs. The rating use to be a 3 star, then I watched the Making of Dim and went back to listen to the instruments and decided to give it a 4 because if you listen to this song really carefully you can hear a whole multitude dimension of music inside this song. I feel like this song was probably well performed at DIM SCENE-09- but I haven't been able to sit down and watch it the whole thing through because this song is LONG.
「エ リ カ」★★★☆☆
This instrumental is boring to me...
HEADACHE MAN★★★★★
Does it say something about myself that I like the angry songs the best? LOVE it. It was one of my most played songs on my ipod for the longest time until my itunes died on me and I lost all my song data (song count/skips, ratings, lyrics, artwork, track numbers, genres.. I'm uber anal about my music). *cries* So far it's climbed back up to #17 on my most played track list, but I doubt the poor thing will ever get back up to 1...
紅蓮★★★★★
First ballad I ever fell in love with. The opening is so powerful and.. I mentioned this song before on Day 5, but this song makes me feel safe. It's a good watching-the-rain sort of song for me. Like it's cold and terrible outside, but you're warm and snuggled up inside sort of thing. It made me sad when Ruki said he didn't want songs like Guren and Cassis to represent the Ballads of Gazette, because I think Guren is absolutely beautiful. But I'm also content with Pledge being that representative too.
「子宮」★☆☆☆☆
I hate the sounds of babies crying. =_=;
13STAIRS[-]1★★★★★
If I could give this song 10 stars on itunes I would. Do you really want me to go through and review this song again? Too bad, cause I'm gonna.
Sometime last year, my headphones accidently fell partially out of my ipod. They got yanked or something. I realized something amazing though because of this. If you put your headphones only partially into the plug, you can hear the underlying sounds of the song, such as the background vocals and only one guitarist. Usually it's Aoi's guitar, but it varies person. I recommend listening to the songs like this at least once because it's AWESOME xD especially Nakigahara and Toguro. And 13stairs!
Ruki's singing has changed a lot since the 'old school' gazette. He actually sings now lol <3 Uber love for this song because it has him singing, screaming and vocalizing (WHICH HE SHOULD DO MORE OFTEN *swoons*~). I loved watching "The Other Side of DIM", because I love watching how stuff is made and how they act like off the stage. It's cool to watch them prepping the guitars and such and watching Uruha and Aoi recording their different parts. I also like watching them recording their vocals pft |D
DISTRESS AND COMA★★★★☆
Again, this song, like INVISIBLE WALL, will never be my favorite. But I like it a lot. I enjoyed the PV as well for the imagry though I thought some parts were kind of out of place. The no faced dance freaks me out a bit though. I like how Ruki sounds singing the "Odoru, odoru.." part <3
「感触」★★★☆☆
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this was the BGM for the OHP for a while right? This one makes me thing of snow.
白き優鬱★★☆☆☆
I don't like this song. I don't like this song so much that its album version is not even on my ipod. The only reason I have it on there, is because I feel weird not having an entire live's tracks on there. Don't like it at all. I think it's boring and just bland, personally.
IN THE MIDDLE OF CHAOS★★★★☆
This song is fun! Like I said with MOTH, when I first heard them, I got them mixed up because they sort of sound the same, without actually sounding the same. They have the same sort of bouncy style which seems kind of out of place in the album, but totally fits together. I love this song and the guitar solos are just <3. I have my own mental MV for this song, but I will not share!
I prefer this song's CD version to the Live version I have, which is DIM SCENE-09-, but maybe if there's another performance recorded I'll like that one better.
「朦朧」★★★★☆
I don't know why I like this instrumental. It's very screeching and not something I would normally like, but I do. *shrugs* And I love Ruki's scream at the end of it~
OGRE★★★★☆
You know, as much as I love the heavy songs, I don't really like this song. I think it's because the beginning sounds like Slipknot's 555 to the 666... sooorta. Plus it cuts off from being really fast, to STOP so Ruki can spell. And we all know how wonderful Ruki's English spelling is, so it's feels very randomly thrown in to me. Not saying I don't like the song, I gave it 4 stars after all, but still.
DIM SCENE★★★★☆
Another 'uhh...this category' song I find myself liking. I remember when it first came out and Ruki said it was a song that compiles all the songs in DIM and going 'whoooaa Ruki's so CLEVER' and I'm just sitting here like 'I don't really see what's so amazing about it' xD;
That aside, I do like the song. I love the added instruments and I especially love it live because I do so love Ruki's scream at the beginning. The guitars give it a very powerful tone to it. I also like way Ruki sings "空が跡切れ光が地に墜ちる..." Because it sounds cool, but it's also frustrating because it's broken up JUST enough that I have trouble singing along XD I adore this song live during DIM SCENE-09-, and liked it at Tokyo Dome.... However, I was unable to really ENJOY the song because I was thoroughly distracted by the light show LOL Right up till the end when Ruki was on his knees on the platform, but it was still gorgeous.
Overall, I give this album ★★★★★ <3 Five out of Five! While I may not like all the songs on the album, I think it is their best because it is so well put together. Everything flows together and isn't broken up as a bunch of songs just thrown together into an album. Most CDs I get feel like that and makes me wonder what the pattern is to listen to, but DIM flows very well together and is a good album to represent the GazettE now. And one day I'll get to hear 13stairs[-]1 live with my own ears xD
