Coastal Mississippi was just as fucked over by the local governments, FEMA, and the federal governments during and after Katrina so why didn't anyone really talk about it? The Emerald Coast is invisible when put next to what happened in New Orleans but some really horrible shit went down here ( Read more... )

wow gina, i had no idea the extent with which your parents and family had to deal with it all. you really should come back for a spell, it's so great here.

it's just so fucking sad that i'll never know how it was before all this happened with the storm. people are still reeling from it and dealing with it and it's like a vicious cycle.

the state's agencies are underfunded, the cost of living is rising, and so are taxes but you don't see much happening right now. people are hell bent on rebuilding and getting everything back but so many people have just given up.

gabe didn't develop diabetes and high blood pressure until after the storm. he was in jackson the whole time but only because his friend's family came and picked him up and took him with them. his stress levels just skyrocketed and he's forever marred.

that's pretty much the same story for everyone: everyone is wounding and trying to put pressure on it but it's still there... a dull, aching pain on everyone's minds.

yeah... old folks, babies, lots of people.

staph was so rampant too and people got sick and had limbs amputated and all kinds of craziness. it's just a sad, sad story.
