lttledvl_writes's post got me to thinking about the fanfic challenges I'm doing, and I realized I'm probably going to drop my Bridge/Sky claim for 30_ways. While I still love Bridge/Sky and still consider it to be my OTP of OTPs, branching out from my comfort zone of writing just Bridge/Sky fic, thanks to the memes and generally trying to write different pairings (as my last two fic posts at shurifanstuffs indicate, I've been in a Sky/Z-ish mood lately *g*), has made it that much harder to go back to writing them exclusively.
There's also the challenge itself- in retrospect, 30 fics was probably too ambitious for my first one, and I should have taken a closer look at the prompts before signing up, too. They're not bad prompts by any means, but some of them will be pretty hard to write an SPD fic based around (namely, "Kitchen", "Shopping" and "Snowfall"), or else I haven't the slightest clue what to write for them ("What you say, what you mean" and "Shut up and listen" especially). I also have got to break my habit of finding some way to write porn to fill a prompt when I'm stuck and do more romance or friendship (whenever I'm not writing Bridge and Sky as lovers, I write them as best friends). If I drop this, I'll have more freedom to just write whatever I feel like writing for Bridge/Sky, too, and not have to stop and think "OK, how can I fit this into the challenge?". It'll also free me up to write more fic in general, because right now all my creativity has been tuned to finishing 30_ways, and some fic ideas have had to be tossed to the wayside to accomodate that because they couldn't be made into Bridge/Sky.
I may sign up for them at 25fluffyfics instead, or maybe claim the series or B-Squad in general there, as none of those prompts look like they'd be particularly hard to write, and picking the series rather than a single pairing is a lot more flexible. Maybe a certain someone whose name begins with "K" and ends with "ikos" and I can write together if we can't find an RP, hmm...
I'm definitely going to keep a_to_z_prompts, as having to write just Sky-centric fic gives me much more wiggle room. I can write gen for him, or Sky/Bridge, or Sky/Z, or Skru... the possibilities are endless!
