... so how about that Castle season finale?

I must admit, I totally did not see Montgomery being a corrupt cop and being the "Third Cop" that helped cover up the investigation into Beckett's mom's murder coming. At all. I mean, they made it obvious that he was going to die with the way he was getting more focus in the episode than he had all season- suddenly we were introduced to a family he'd never so much as mentioned before, etc. But it does certainly put a new spin on all of his supposedly-concerned and fatherly interactions with Beckett. He was supposed to keep her from getting too close, and somewhere along the way developed a guilty conscience.

I'm never going to be able to watch scenes with him in reruns and not cringe. I do wonder just how long the writers were planning this twist, too, because IMO it does not feel contrived- to me it was totally believable.

I am also not worried at all about Beckett making it- they can't kill her or there's no show- but it's like a friend on Plurk said, "Betcha season 4 opens with her in the hospital and having convenient amnesia that makes her forget the funeral and Castle telling her he loves her." :| Though I like mine better- "Season 4 opens with Kate on the ground, opening her eyes and telling Castle 'Of course I remembered to wear body armor.'"

All in all, very powerful episode- I liked Castle and Beckett's fight, too, and the way Castle reacted to it.
