crimes and children

I read in the news today about a boy in Florida who had been set on fire by three other boys. The victim is 15, two of the attackers are 15 and the other is 16. The three attackers are being tried as adults for attempted murder. I agree with you--these boys need some serious help; not to be thrown to the proverbial wolves. But--take a look at the state that it happened in--these kids don't have a chance. Florida has some of the harshest punishments in the nation, especially young offenders, mostly because the state is overpopulated with old folks of the "get off my lawn!" variety. It's up there with Texas.

If you recall in the late 90s, 3 teens who pulled a prank by stealing a stop sign, which caused an accident that killed someone, were sentenced to life in prison (to set an example, supposedly). Three kids, who were 16 at the time. Yes, they should be punished, but Florida is just absurd.
