( For the last half-minute, no muscle in her body had moved. Flinched. Twitched. Not that he could see, anyway. The phone call equivalent, Danny mused, of a Medusa encounter. )

I have to say, I used to hate fanfiction, and you've turned me around completely. This is really good. I especially like the "anchor without a ship" description, and I don't know how you do it, but all their dialogue is so them. I can hear them say it.

Her focus flew around the room as she curled her hand around the doorknob with a bloodless grip. "Danny, I--I can’t. I can’t."

Danny’s heart hammered--fast and sudden--when she spoke, a waver in her voice. Panic.

This is just a perfect capture of both of them. I can see it, hear it, practically breathe it. Great moment in a tightly-done story.

Aw, thanks. ♥ I really appreciate that. I kind of liked the thought of Danny recognizing the panic immediate as something not only serious but out of the ordinary for CJ. She deals with all kinds of horrible things, but panic hardly ever slips out like that. I think he'd pick up on it instantly. (Also, Danny. I want all men to be like you.)
