Every morning, when the conductor comes through collecting tickets, I smile and ask how he's doing. Today I felt a bit more tired than usual, and just held up my pass. The conductor recognized me, grinned, and said, "Hey! How are you?"

Sometimes, a bit of human interaction goes a long way towards cheering someone up.
