I burned the soles of my feet on my way to my second interview this afternoon. What with the DNC coming to town, ALL of the parking near my destination was full. Every parking garage and lot. I found parking a couple of blocks away and since I'd be walking on a fairly steep downhill grade, I decided to take off my wedgy sandals and walk barefoot to save my back. Hiking uphill is much easier for me.
BIG, big mistake. I don't know if my feet are extra tender, or the sidewalk was extra hot, but I burned the soles of my feet. By the time I realized it was intolerable, stopping was out of the question. I had to cross some asphalt that was even hotter to get to a shady patch of concrete with a bench-type thing I could sit on to put my sandals back on. There was no further burning, but the damage was done. I just got done looking at my feet (I have them on an ice pack) and there are even a few blisters that broke on my way back to my truck.
Owie. Also, stupid move.
All recruiters are optimists. This morning's interview was with a guy who I'd swear was part of the Deloise family. He looked a lot like a young Peter Deloise (in his slightly pudgy days) and had a similar sense of humor. I could have hung out with him all day long and exchanged quips. We managed to stay on-task long enough to get the interview done and I need to do some crappy tests online for him. I took those same tests yesterday and they were awkward but I should be able to score higher this time around since I'm familiar with the format.
Since my second interview was only a couple of hours from when we finished, I found a bakery offering inexpensive lunch and free wi-fi. I'd brought my laptop, so that I could hang someplace for the intervening time and check my email and LJ.
I left in plenty of time for my interview downtown, but there was no parking to be had, making me late (and burning my feet. Oye!). It went very well, however. This guy had lots of ideas of places we can check out and was free with telling me how to find them on the internet. I'd met with them almost 3 years ago and they also placed a former co-worker of mine and we know a lot of the same people, so the relationship is pretty solid right out of the box.
My phone was low on battery and I hadn't brought my car charger with me. I was trying to reply to a text from
katcorvi when it finally died on my way home.
My first priority was to get my damn shoes OFF and change out of my interview clothes that are more suited to fall than summer. Finding an ice pack for my feet, something to drink and hooking my phone up to the charger.
I had a message from a different recruiter at the outfit I'd just left. He has an opportunity that sounds really good and interesting with perhaps more room for advancement than ordinary accounting. I told him to go ahead and submit me. We'll see. Like I said, recruiters are eternal optimists.
It's been a long, hot day, but very productive. I need to get out to check my plants, but my feet don't want to go anywhere right now.
