So I've been thinking a lot about how I will adapt Kyoto when the time comes. Can anyone think of a reason that the sash (pink) part is in double seed stitch other than design preference? I would much rather have smooth stockinette with a short seed border.

I think partially design, partially because of curling. I can see even a short seed border flipping up on stockinette. But it would drape a little better (of course using cotton or not would affect that too)

I think I was still planning on cotton. I suppose it can always be experimented with, I've never used mercantized cotton before and I don't really know how it would be at that gauge.

I find cotton to be a bitch to work with, but I think that's just cause I'm lazy and it requires just a touch more effort than wool. I've had more issues with cotton curling and stretching, but I bet blocking would cure that.

It's much heavier than a wool yarn of the same size, so I think the choice of cotton for drape makes sense. I'd be concerned about cotton's tendency to stretch with it's own weight pulling the surplice top out of whack. Course you could always tack it down then.

I really like working with cotton, but only on good metal needles. On bamboo I find that it's just way too unforgiving. Of course I only have bamboo needles in size 5 circs at this point. What kind of shaping were you thinking of adding? Short rows around the bust?
