circular knitting woes

yikes...
is there any possible way of determining where the beginning of a round is when you've removed the marker?
(working on fuzzy feet from knitty...)

I always kind of keep an eye on the string that's hanging one the bottom from the casting on. It's not always exact to eyeball it, but if you follow the stitches up you can see the start.
