Sherlock smirked to himself as he entered his flat, bounding up the stairs in his excitement for the evening he had planned for himself and his flatmate. It had been a very long time coming, but he finally found himself in a real, healthy relationship after a lifetime of distancing himself from anything involving emotions. Even he never anticipated that he could find this, let alone that he would find it with his best friend who happened to be a male ex-army doctor. It wasn't easy, not by a long shot considering they both had a stubborn streak, but finally their true feelings for each other were made clear, and now they were both settling in to this very new development of a real relationship with each other.
Despite the fact that Sherlock had long ago dismissed romantic companionship as boring and unnecessary, he was taking surprisingly well to his relationship with John. It was new and exciting, but it didn't disrupt their casework and often made it easier considering they rarely left each other's sides anymore except when John had work. John would be home any moment from the clinic, actually, so Sherlock quickened his pace upstairs, peeling off his layers of clothing and dropping each article in a trail leading to the loo. He ran a hot bath, knowing John's penchant for them, adding plenty of soap to create a generous amount of bubbles. He left as the tub filled up to retrieve the wine he had left chilling in the fridge, grabbing a bottle of scotch as well for good measure. His plans for the caseless evening ahead generally consisted of getting he and John as sloshed as possibly without actually dying of alcohol poisoning, and he didn't want to take the chance of running out of alcohol when they were in the tub together. He didn't bother with glasses, moving back to the loo and slipping into the warm water with a grateful sigh. He didn't wait for John before he got into the wine, drinking it straight from the bottle in the hopes of getting a bit of a buzz by the time his lover returned home to find him.
