Canon Character and Series: Zhou Yu aka Gongjin from Dynasty Warriors
In-Game Name: Zhou Yu aka Gongjin
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Position & Ship (first and second choice for position please):
I. Navigator :: Lieutenant :: the Victoria II ★ picked
II. Pilot :: Lieutenant :: the Victoria II
Appearance:
If Zhou Yu must be described by one word only then that word will have to be "beautiful". Though of obviously male build, - tall and broad shouldered - Zhou Yu still possesses physical qualities that make him far too beautiful to be a man for some.
He has long black hair he often keeps up in a high ponytail - for practicality's sake, of course, and not for vanity's, as no matter how well-kept the hair is it has an annoying habit of entangling with the metal instruments ever present in his line of work when left down. To compliment his hair, he has smooth, porcelain-like skin that nicely contrasts the midnight black of his hair. Contrary to popular belief, his skin complexion is not a result of conscious grooming. Rather it is something of a genetic heirloom, having come from a family of nobles blessed with natural good looks.
Personality:
Zhou Yu is a gentleman, one of the rare few people in modern society who actively practices chivalry, not only for appearances sake but because he truly desires to follow this code. He is polite to a fault, and more often than not, someone who follows the rules.
However, despite his aptitude for following rules and orders, Zhou Yu isn't someone who will blindly follow all the time. If, at anytime, he has discerned a rule, or order, to be unnecessary, outright detrimental to his company's goals, and simply morally wrong, he will defy it without a second thought. This tendency will have been magnified if the rule or order directly affects a friend or a comrade. Though the consequences may be dire, he will find a way to make it so they will be livable and thus carry out his chosen course of action.
Of course, the reason for this ability, and confidence, to defy orders stems from the healthy confidence Zhou Yu possesses. Simply put, Zhou Yu is someone who knows what he is capable of; he is aware of his wit, his intelligence, and even his good looks. Though it is not to the extent that this confidence becomes unhealthy pride ( and certainly when praised Zhou Yu doesn't quite exalt himself and neither does he over-humble himself ), it is still something that, honestly, does get him into trouble sometimes.
He is patriotic, but his loyalty isn't for the country - the drawn territory in maps - but for the people that make it up. He fights for the people, and for his friends and family, rather than the idea of a nation without acknowledging the civilians that make it up.
Abilities/Weapons:
In addition to being well-versed in the art of using traditional weaponry (the dao and bo staff ), Zhou Yu prides himself in being quite the musician. He plays the erhu, the guqin, and the dizi. Of course, as with all students of the academy, he knows how to handle modern weapons as well (as it is required, naturally, to be accepted into the military) and can defend himself in hand-to-hand combat.
He also has the natural mind of a military strategist, and can be irresitably charming if he desires to be.
How well can your character hack?:
Given that Zhou Yu is a rather old-fashioned young man, he hacks decently; up to the level every military man should be able to ( Medium Level) . He despises hacking, although he acknowledges that in modern warfare, it is a necessary evil that has to be followed if one is to succeed for the sake of the country.
Weaknesses:
Old traditions and old ideas are old for a reason. As such, being that Zhou Yu is a young man whose very being is deeply rooted to old traditions, personally, he can be a bit of a... stiff person. He can be a bit slow as well when it comes to modern ideas.
Of course, this awkwardness isn't something that affects his work. In that, he works excellently and has a different weakness altogether. With relation to work, Zhou Yu can be over-dedicated, too serious, too immersed in his work that it literally makes him sick. His life is his work, not in the workaholic sense, but in that you cannot define Zhou Yu without acknowledging his profession as a military man. He lives and breathes his devotion to the country and its people. Not to mention to Sun Ce.
Sun Ce is another matter altogether. It wouldn't be too far-fetched to say that if Zhou Yu had any huge faults then it is his association with Sun Ce whose drive, beliefs, desires - whose very being - affect Zhou Yu's decisions and actions even long after they've parted.
History:
Zhou Yu is the third son of the Zhou Family. Like the Sun family, the Zhou Family has deep ties to the military, albeit ones it does not actively publicize. For many generations now, the Zhous have been content to sit at the top of the Melior aristocracy together with other families of the same ilk. Though in the early years of Ivona's founding, the Zhou family were active participants in its military, military involvement is something the Zhou family, in general, frowns upon nowadays, choosing to participate instead in other, more worthwhile, pursuits.
It comes to no surprise then that when Zhou Yu made his desire to work for the military known, he was met with a rather fierce opposition from his family. His association with one Sun Ce of the Sun Family was blamed as well as the progenitor of this ludicrous idea. However, in time, and due to Zhou Yu's hard work, his family have come to accept, respect, and even become truly proud of their Zhou Yu's decision, regardless of what his true motives may have been in choosing this line of work. ( Zhou Yu's parents still hold some suspicion towards Sun Ce, especially in light of his assassination of one Liu Biao, an incident that has had the Zhous become fervent in asking Zhou Yu to not work with Sun Ce if he can help it. It is a request that Zhou Yu chose to follow for a while, before his transfer to the Victoria II. By then, he reasoned that his parents, and family, cannot control his very being, and no matter the temporary pain it would bring to his parents, he will transform their beliefs regarding Sun Ce, his good friend.)
On the matter of Sun Ce; Zhou Yu and Sun Ce met as young children and became fast friends, despite their characters being hugely different from each other. In a way, it is this difference, perhaps, that brought them together in the first place as Zhou Yu's quiet, thoughtful, and careful demeanor complimented Sun Ce's brash, careless, and, more often than not, spontaneous one. Though Zhou Yu's family would like to believe that it was Sun Ce who inspired Zhou Yu to follow the path of a military man, the seeds of this dream had been planted even before Zhou Yu met Sun Ce. It was only Sun Ce, and his honorable father Sun Jian, who made the dream all the more... possible to reach, plausible for a man of his birth.
As fate would have it, though Zhou Yu did indeed desire to work together with Sun Ce as soon as they graduated from the Bellcius military academy, Zhou Yu decided on working with Melior's military structure - or what little of it existed - in the meantime. It had been a difficult decision to make, but one that had to be made if he were to win his family's good favor and support. It is no secret, of course, that Melior needed all the help it could get to be able to protect itself in the time of war. While it lived under the willing help of other cities during peace time, who was to say they would be willing to lend military prowess during war time...? And in today's fast-evolving world, suddenly, war is no longer something of a myth...
When he deemed his work in Melior sufficient, in the meantime that is, he actively looked for a way to once again work with Sun Ce. The opportunity eventually presented itself. And even if by snapping up this opportunity up means working on the decks of the dreaded the Victoria II, Zhou Yu didn't mind at all...
SAMPLES-
Third Person (roleplay):
It was curious to note that his new quarters were several cubic meters smaller than his quarters back in Melior. Of course, in no way was Zhou Yu regretting his decision to transfer to the ranks of the Victoria II by this line of thought. When he had decided on following the path of a military man, an aviator to boot, he naturally had shed all expectation of living a life of luxury, and of comfort. A military man, one that was still of use to the country that is, wasn't one to live with unnecessary luxuries; he was a man of action of necessity. Zhou Yu, of course, preferred to be like this, a man of action.
--and there he was again, losing himself in his thoughts. He returned to the quiet, albeit mundane, task of arranging his belongings and distributing it to the various cabinets that had been provided for him in his small cabin. If Sun Ce were here, his friend would surely say something about his brooding ways. That was how it was then and Zhou Yu didn't expect Sun Ce to change much, even if Sun Ce did require some sore changing in some aspects of his character, his nigh uncontrollable brashness, for example.
"Ah, Bofu," Zhou Yu mused when he finally came to the task of putting away his dao and his bo staff - these weapons never failed to remind him of Sun Ce as his friend had been his most frequent sparring companion back in the academy. "It will be interesting to see your surprise, my friend. However, your surprise will not be a match to my joy of being able to work with you again."
He believed that together once again, they could work wonders for their country.
First Person (journal):
Being new to this ship, I suppose an introduction is required. To my fellow countrymen, I am Zhou Yu of Melior, reporting for duty.
To Bofu; I was wondering when you will notice my arrival. I hope you have not forgotten me, my friend.
