Summary: Onew uses a mission to his advantage...and Key's disadvantage
Note: Inspired by Key's expression during High Society
Key really, really loved the spotlight. Not like a brat; he didn't hog it - he was a good member - but if the focus was on him, he made sure it was something worth watching. So he threw himself into memorizing the lines. And when he was done with memorizing those lines, he started with the feelings.
It was kind of easy, seeing as it was a romantic scene...and Onew and Key were an actual thing.
So when Onew was more-or-less tackled onto the ground, he just let it slide. Key was going to finish this mission in the most over-the-top manner he could possibly manage. Meanwhile, Onew just laid on the floor with his own thoughts.
Variety shows...how much of the filming was actually shown? How much got cut? How many times would they have to go through this before they got it right and how much would Korea actually see?
He was going to do this. He was really going to do this.
PD said go and immediately, Key started tearing off his scarf. “Take me! Take me! Take all of me!” The look he had on his face, Onew almost believed he was ready to cry.
Even if he knew it was acting, he had to turn away. “Go back.” Thankfully, the script said to do it too, so nobody batted an eye.
Key's arms wrapped around his waist, pressing his chest against Onew's back. Onew could even feel his heartbeat if he stood still enough. “Let's runaway together.”
His tongue tied together and he gulped down over the invisible lump in his throat. “I can't ruin my life just because of one woman.”
Key turned him around lightning-fast. “What did you just say?” He glared into Onew's eyes, smacking his gobbing-mouth shut.
Onew pursed his lips. Once again he had to clear his throat. “Did you know that....” His tongue tied itself together in a knot. He slipped over the line and the PD called them out on it.
No...not just yet. He'd give them a few more takes first... He'd...
They went over it three more times, coupled with Key almost losing the dress, his sunbae squirting water in his face, and the show regulars rubbing a feather-duster in his face. He cleared his throat as they geared up to start again. The regulars had smiles on their faces, no doubt thinking about which distraction device they were going to use next. Key primped himself in the camera reflection, tying the bright pink scarf around his neck. Onew couldn't help it - his eyes were pinned on him.
He was going to do this. He really was going to do this.
“Start!”
That scarf that Key had taken such care tying was - once again - ripped off in a matter of seconds. “Take me! Take me! Take all of me!” He screamed
Onew - once again - turned around. “Go back.” He whispered.
Key embraced him, just as tight as before with his head on his shoulders. “Let's runaway together, huh?”
Onew breathed in and closed his eyes. “I can't ruin my life just because of you, Kibum.”
The embrace slackened as Onew opened his eyes. He could see the PD shocked, contemplating in his own mind whether or not he should call them on it.
Key spoke before he could make that call. “Wha...wha...what did you say?”
Slowly, Onew turned around. He looked up at Key with sharp eyes. That emotional expression he had before was gone now - this was true confusion written on his face. “What we have...it'll never work. You and I both know we will not be able to live through what the world has for us.”
The silence was heavy; heavy enough to cut through. The High Society cast didn't know what to make of the change of scene - the staff either.
As Onew stared into his eyes, he noticed the tears Key was forcing himself to hold back. “Jinki-ah...are you...are you really...doing this?” Key swallowed over the lump in his throat, fighting back the urge to cry for a little bit longer. “No...no, you can't do this. You're not doing this to me.” He could see Key searching for what to say...what could he say. “What we have...it's too important. You can't just throw it away... You...you can't...”
Onew looked away. Key was a word away from crying and it took all Onew had to not just stop and take him in his arms. “I can, Key. I can move on...I can forget about you...” He closed his eyes for a moment. “I don't like you that much, anyway.”
The words were like a dagger, stabbing Key deep in his heart. For a moment, he stood still - shocked and hurt. The tears dribbled out of his eyes with no control of Key.
But Key was still Key - and he wouldn't let go without a fight.
“And who are you decide this on your own, huh?” He grabbed Onew's chin, forcing him to look Key in the eye. “You're saying this for my sake, aren't you? That's why you're doing this now - so I have the chance to deny everything and say that I didn't know what was going on. You're saving my skin, right now, aren't you?” He shoved Onew away with anger in his eyes. “Well guess what, Jinki - you don't get to do that. I will say when we're done and it is not today.”
Key reached out and took Onew's hand in his. “This hand - this is the only hand that will ever touch my body. This hand has been engraved into my skin.”
Onew had expected Key to yell and scream at him in an effort to stop this from happening, but he hadn't thought Key would make such a daring speech. “Kibum...”
The tears started afresh, even though Key was now smiling at him as he interlocked their fingers. “I'm yours. I'm yours and only yours.”
Onew was forced to smile. “And I'm yours.” He pulled Key close to him, catching his lips in a kiss sure to leave his determined other half breathless. And he didn't care about the cameras watching them. Not when Key was clinging to him, giving him brand new confidence in their relationship.
Shindong looked between Sunggyu and the rest of his cast-mates for affirmation that they were really watching his dongsaengs make out in front of them. Unconsciously, he found himself whispering, “And I thought Eunhyukkie and Donghae were the only ones together...”
Onew and Key parted, looking at their hyung with wide eyes. In fact...everyone turned to him with wide eyes. As he realized what he had said, he smacked his own mouth.
“Can we please just do the scene?!” PD yelled, his head in his hands. “We'll worry about...that...later.”
Onew and Key blushed and laughed. “Sorry, PD-nim.” They got back in their positions, brushing themselves off and getting themselves ready. As Key raised a hand to wipe his cheeks, Onew beat him to it. He stroked his cheek with a gentle smile, raising Key's blush. “Hey! Stop that!” PD scolded. Onew looked over to him to check his reaction and saw the older man red as a tomato. It made Onew smile even more.
Yeah, he was doing this. He was really going to do this.
He was going to be with Key - forever.
