Toffee B1, Wednesday Afternoon Through Evening

Jul 28, 2010 07:27

Her discussion with Helen had left her quietly out of sorts and while she'd been glad enough for the distraction of class, Hinata had been gladder still to escape after class, make a few sandwiches, and despite the fact that alcoves were not nearly so private as her room in the dorms, it was enough ( Read more... )

Technically, Hayley was supposed to be calling her lawyer. But Alex already knew, and Hayley didn't want this message to be passed on second hand.

So instead, she clutched to HQ phone to her ear and waited as she dialed Hinata.

Hinata answered the phone on the second ring. (She'd have answered it on the first but Yei had made a mad dash to see what was making the noise and that had meant Hinata had to scoop her kitten away from her phone.)

"Hello?"

Call display told her where the call was from, but not who it was. Hinata deemed it best to keep her greeting simple at the moment even as she frowned slightly.

"H-Hinata?" Hayley said, a little shaky in her voice. While she'd been remaining as stoic as possible behind bars, if rather quiet, she was still scared and she always felt like she could let it show just a little when she heard her friend's voice.

"It's me. Hayley."

Her voice warmed even as the worry deepened.

"Hayley," she greeted gently. "How are things proceeding?"

It wasn't like Karla had been trying to eavesdrop, but they were in cabins. The thin curtain over the doorway didn't do much to stop sound. So she waited until the phone call was over and then hurried down to Hinata's alcove.

"Hinata?" she called, tapping on the wood outside B1. "It's Karla. Can I come in?"

She glanced up from her phone, having very quickly left Elle a voicemail.

"Please do," Hinata replied, shooing Yei away from her book with an absent hand. "I was just about to go looking for you."

"I, uhh, heard," Karla admitted, looking a little chagrined. "I didn't mean to, but the cabin isn't really built for that. What's up? Is everything all right with Hayley?"

She'd heard her name, and Elle's, and something about a visit, but there was way too much worry in Hinata's psychic scent.

"Have you talked with her recently?" Hinata asked, first wanting to know if Karla knew anything about the current situation at all. "And are you free this weekend?"

The smell of cheeseburgers made its way into Hinata's alcove before Warren made it there, yeah, but it was probably that very smell that would have given him away, at any rate.

"Anybody home in there?"

Look, he'd forgotten to harass her with lunch at work this week, and anyhow, he missed his roommate, so he figured that this was just making up for lost time.

Or something.

Or something, indeed.

She smiled very slightly as Yei, who'd been sleeping, perked her head up.

"I'm here," she called, looking up from the list she was making of things to bring. "You may come in, Warren."

Cheeseburgers, his voice, the way Yei was oh so casually stretching...

She was stretching because she was a puffy white ball of hell on wheels, and nobody in the universe would ever be able to convince Warren otherwise. Still, he was grinning as he peeked his head into the alcove.

"Hey, roomie," he greeted, holding out the bag in offering. "They remembered the cheese this week."

That was Warren for 'how are you? Want some?'

She offered him a distracted smile while leaning over to snag the bag and tilting her head at the bed. He'd have to pick Yei up, but he could sit on it. There was more than enough room, even if his wings couldn't possibly be fond of the cabins.

"Did they?" she asked, mildly amused despite herself. "Have they forgotten something else, then?"

Elle went by Hinata's cabin as soon as she finished with classes.

She let herself in, looking worried. "Hey..."

"Elle," Hinata said, glancing up from the book she'd been attempting to read. Something to do. It was only Wednesday, shopping would be taken care of tomorrow, and they couldn't do anything until Friday. "Please, do come in."

The tiny white kitten that made a beeline for Elle's ankles had a far less worrisome agenda. She wanted snuggles! Snuuuggles!

"Kitty!" Elle swooped down to pick up the kitten, only belatedly stopping to think that maybe the kitten didn't like being scooped up suddenly and flipped onto her back.

Kitty adored it! As was proven by the wriggly purr and paw that got batted cheerfully vaguely in the direction of Elle's face.

Yei was not great with 'aiming'.

"Her name is Yei," Hinata said, smiling at the antics. "She loves attention paid to her."

Mmm distraction techniques.

The sharp clip-clop of Triela's heels proceeded her. She was, of course, dressed in hand-tailored Italian suit. And by the confidence in her stride, she was looking for someone in particular.

Maybe it was Hinata.

Hinata was focused on planning--what little she could plan at the moment--and the clip-clop of heels took her a moment, and got Yei's attention first.

So that would be a kitty who was going investigating!

Oooooh feet!

Triela came to a sudden stop. She eyed Yei carefully. She didn't want to trip.

It'd be embarrassing.

And if she were a little bit stiff, well... she wasn't very good around animals.

All Yei really wanted to do was rub up against those heels and purr her silly little head off in greeting.

Hinata had to follow as she peered out of her alcove. "Ah," she said, smiling at Triela and Yei. "Is she bothering you, Triela?"
