I couldn't help but think the same thing. It seems to me that Dean has no reason left to be selfless anymore, and if he could have anything he wanted, why wouldn't it be a simple existence of pleasure and approval with something he was good at, and someone who loved all of him?

Glad I caught you with the twist, I was worried it was too subtle. Thanks!

I don't suppose I'd be lucky enough that you are working on a John came home fic (Dark Side of the Moon, 5x16) would you??? I have been looking since Thursday I figured they would be all over, but I haven't found one yet.

Glad it worked for you. It just felt like such a strong possible reaction that I had to explore it.

So sad that the persons that were supposed to show Dean love and approval, were so incapable of that that
even a demon did a better job.Really John ,you've let yourself bested by a demon?
What kind of family is that, that makes you feeling more comfortable in HELL than around them?
On the other hand he can just be a masochist, and where can he find a better sadist than in the flames of hell?:)
It was a great story. If it's not the best I've read for this pairing is certainly coming close.

I really think that's the reason that Alastair was my favorite villain in the show. He was pure evil, yet he was the only person to ever forthright demonstrate affection for the Golden Boy. Not innuendos, not gruff grudging acknowledgements, not stuttering embarrassed words or shy smiles. Just pure unadulterated admiration for his favorite student, and the desire to have him back. Even his taunting was aimed at driving Dean to perfection of the art he was practicing. Of course Dean's a masochist, and co-dependent. He bases his self worth on how well he cares for those around him. Only Alastair ever gave him approval for doing something for himself. I can't help but adore him, and I wish we had seen more of him before Sam took him out.

Oh I know! I thought he was perfection. He was/is my favorite character in the show. And there were so many times I was looking for stories with him in it, but there weren't. I'd hoped that spnstoryfinders would have a tag with him but they don't! I was so dismayed.

Um, anyway, I was linked to the Alastair/Dean com, and I'm finding so many awesome stories, your included.

I also agree with everything that you just said in your comment. I'm glad to find another Alastair fan.
