I kind of want to cry, in the best way possible.

So, some of y'all may know that a few months back, I acquired the most expensive cat in the world, priced at four hundred dollars. ...Well, more precisely, I spent four hours picking him up from the side of the road and taking him to the vet to save his little kitty life to the tune of four hundred dollars ( Read more... )

Awww, that's fantastic! You're kind of reminding me of Cassie from the Animorphs; I still remember your rescue of a hummingbird so-many-entries ago.

What does play therapy and creative waking hours amount to? Is this actually a standardized thing, or are you working off of instinct and circumstance?

Thank you! :D Yeah, the hummingbird was kind of unusual. Very sweet, though. Also a clever bird.

Play therapy is an idea I got from My Cat From Hell, a feline equivalent of the Dog Whisperer. It involves engaging the kitty's instincts via playing with him; he realizes eventually that woah, this is fun, and nothing bad is happening to him. The creative waking hours is more circumstantial - that's when he happened to be up and active, since the other cats were sleepy and Maggie was outside. (I also blinked at him a lot, and I thought it was amazing when he would finally blink back at me! :D You know, the looong, sloooow, kitty happy blinks? Those!)

Congrats! I wish we had that much luck with the ferals at the cat rescue >>.

he was so calm with people while in astonishing amounts of pain
That's actually how cats react to extreme pain! I'm sorry to hear that's how your guy started out, but I'm glad he's pulled through all right (even if he is a crazy man :p).

Not gonna lie, it did kind of take several months before he got there. ^_^;; And I know a cat rescue is a totally different experience than a home environment! Maybe something more like the Kanab technique might work for you?

Yeah - I'm honestly just glad he made it! You know how rare it is that mammals survive being hit by cars. :( I absolutely couldn't leave him there once I realized he was alive. And he is the sweetest kitty! Probably the sweetest of all of ours, God help us.

I would LOVE if the rescue had someone who would do that kind of stuff. Unfortunately it simply doesn't have the manpower or time (or interested parties) to truly socialize the wild or shy cats we get in. We do have foster families, but all of them deal with fostering the itty-bitty baby kittens, not adjusting wild cats for family life.
The feral cat issue at this rescue is kinda an iffy spot with me so I'll stop before I rant :D;.

Rare for ANY animal hit by a car to survive :< I almost stopped to check on a snake in the road earlier today but there were cars behind me and nowhere good to pull over. Poor snake...

I'm so sorry to hear that! D8 Once I'm employed and out of my parent's house, I'm tempted to volunteer to foster ferals. I know one working-at-success kitty is a lot to base a project like that on, but hell, it's better than nothing. I know some shelters just euth them on sight...

I know... :( I'm always the person that pulls over and picks up the turtles - it's practically a hobby for me. A very sad hobby. If it helps, if it was a snake and on the road, the poor baby was definitely dead. Assholes aim for them, my dad included. (Now it's my turn to stop before I rant...)

Money is for spending and getting into debt with, right? Right?? ...Anyway, he's totally the sweetest of our kitties, by far. *lol* Even when he was still wild, he was.

Thanks! <3!
