My brother, Dustin abused me and then later, our nephews were allowed to be alone with him. I was so worried he would hurt them! I told their mom and dad and they didn’t do anything. At that point, it was out of my hands. I suggest you talk to your nephew’s parents. I think it’s better to try and protect those children than to try and protect your sister. Things can get ugly if they deny it or whatever but I think it might be worth a try! You don’t want your nephews to go through what you did! Good luck with whatever you decide and God bless you!
My comment was deleted. Did I do something wrong? I will still reply to your question. Yes, it did put strain on my family relationships, but in order for me to have peace of mind, I needed to do all I could to protect my nephews. I couldn’t control how their parents responded to the information, but I could make sure they had all the facts.
It is such a difficult situation. I can't imagine a way of confronting sexual abuse which does not shake family relationships, unfortunately.
My sister tried to protect my sister and I (we were more than 10 years younger than her) from the abuse she suffered at the hands of our grandfather by telling or mother.
It probably did help reduce the severity of the abuse, though it didn't completely prevent it.
Thank you for sharing. I wish you healing on your journey
