Welcome to owning a Husky....mine is four and still does her own thing for the most part. She is actually a pretty good dog, but she has her moments. As for the hyper part, well mine is almost five and she acts the same way now that she did at six months.
Yeah, a big part of training is you learning how to work with the dog.
Suka is still young, and should have a lot of puppy enthusiasm - Siberians in particular seem to keep that puppy mentality especially long. :) He shouldn't be uncontrollable, though. From your description (you said he still thinks he's above you in the pack), it sounds like he might need to be enrolled in NILIF boot camp (Nothing In Life Is Free). There's a lot of good resources online for NILIF - you can search for it to find others besides the one I linked to.
Also, I'd recommend trying to find another training class near you now. Like I said, a big part of training is you learning how to interact with the dog, and a good instructor will go a long way towards that goal.
Good luck! Even Siberians can be trained, no matter what people may say. :) My Zeus has a CD (obedience title).
thank you for the links - and the advice! after I posted the initial intro story - he was a little angel all weekend. which makes me think i need to take him to the vet. he's eating his food and everything - i'll just go in and say, "hey, my dog has been behaving very well - i think something is wrong".
Whoa! Now that is a GORGEOUS Husky!! You are very lucky. Siberian Huskies are often difficult to train, and even when they do obey your instructions, they still have a lot of energy. My husky, Misty, never settled down as far as energy goes, but Mika settled down around the age of two/three.
Suka is a cutie. We have a hard time with Laika. She will only sit and lie down if you have a treat. In case we really need her to sit we always have a treat with us.
