Art: Esca, the Brigantes Warrior

Title: Esca, the Brigantes Warrior
Rating: G
Medium: colored pencils and photo-editing (saturation, etc)
Notes: An exploration of Esca if he had become a warrior in his father's tribe. I'd love any sort of feedback, of course, but especially if this is or isn't how you'd imagine him. Don't be shy, let me know! I plan on drawing more.

I love this take on Esca!! He looks so fierce, and the tattoos, and his wild hair and bare torso all add up to UNF and awesomeness.

Thank you! I read some of the Gauls (moreso than the Britons, unfortunately) ran into battle naked, and I found an illustration of one with a strategically placed shield, which was hilarious.

OMG THIS IS AMAZING!!!
(Duh. Of course it is. You drew it)
Drawing the grass and the landscape and that warrior in the background may have taken you a lot of time, but at least the end result is fantastic: The grass right beneath Esca's feet look JUST LIKE REAL GRASS OMG.

BEAUTFUL. SO SO BEAUTIFUL

YOU ARE AMAZING, SHUT UP. <33

It was awful, let me tell you. I'd even colored him in already before I realized "Oh, I guess he's not running in the air in space so I have to draw...a background?! Noooo!" or something like that.

I'm going to force myself to draw a landscape or two, just so I don't hate them so much anymore.

Oh man, this is EVEN BETTER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. I love the sense of motion and drama--Esca's pose is very dynamic, and he's exactly what I imagine movie!Esca would look like in that scenario. LOVE the tattoos (I wasn't too thrilled with the boxy one in the movie).

Concrit-wise, I think there's something off about his shield arm, both in terms of where it is relative to the shield and how much of it we see. With the shield at that angle, I don't think it would completely hide his forearm, and I suspect the boss is probably more level with his elbow. But I'm not 100% sure, and it's not distracting.

Mannnnnn, now I want a full-blown grown-up British warrior Esca AU.

Thank you! I'm glad I didn't get too carried away with the tattoos, then.

The shield reconstructions I saw showed only room for the hand behind the boss with a short handle. I assumed before there would be two loops for your arm to fit through, but it seemed the arm was supposed to be free. Other illustrations I found showed them holding their shields with their hands at the boss and their arms lower and straighter out. I think you're right though and I fudged his arm's foreshortening a bit.

AHEM. I hope that means you'll consider writing it? I'm not above bribery with art.

Man, they must have been really strong, even if the shields were light. Oof.

Also you can never get too carried away with the tattoos. *cough*

I will consider writing a lot of things, but I don't really have any plot/scenario ideas for that one? Other than the one I already wrote where everybody dies. And the other one where everybody dies.

Also my WIP list is horrifying and indicates my unreliability. The idea list is worse.

But anyway, if someone throws a more detailed plotbunny at me and it sticks, sure. :-) AFTER YULETIDE.

I can't imagine how difficult it'd be to hold much less wield, since the reconstruction site said they used the protruding point of the boss to punch with as well.

Other than the one I already wrote where everybody dies. And the other one where everybody dies.
*slaps forehead* That's right. I'd been away too long. Good luck on your Yuletide fic. :)
