Awesome, I always wanted to write a book, but didn't have much of a story to tell! Did you research about Braille, and talk to people who are blind? I saw this movie once where a young boy teaches a blind girl to see colours, it happens such that he heats up a stone and asks her to hold it in her hand, and she is awe struck as she can sense a colour and all....and then he keeps an another stone in the freezer and gives it to her again, and she holds it and this time she can sense some colours too...... I do not know the scientific basis of this, or whether it's possible. I just thought it would be nice to share a thought with an author :-)
i've had a lot of interactions with blindness over the years, because of an eye condition that as a child resulted in numerous trips to opthalmologists and vision specialists, so i'm pretty familiar with the territory. i was also a tech. assistant in a vision lab at one point. the thing i like about fiction is that you don't actually have to know what you're talking about. you just need to have enough knowledge to sound authoritative. i fill in blanks later when i need to.
i'd be interested to know what movie you saw if you remember the title.
and you're in india! vikram seth is actually a friend of a friend. i've been to a party in london once where he was present, singing german lieder. i'm a huge fan of indian writers: arundhati roy, vikram chandra, salman rushdie, jhumpa lahiri, etc.
and welcome to my journal. i friended you; i hope that's ok.
