This whole retro pre-feminist business seems to be injecting itself into lots of things. Consider Stephen Holden's review of Pride and Prejudice the movie in the NYT. yeah, it's interesting what different people look for. i like intellectually combative relationships with underlying emotional support. my most healthy relationship was with a man i almost never fought with when it came to domestic or personal things, but who i couldn't talk to about whether truth is fundamentally relative or absolute, because we always ended up yelling at each other. that's what i get for dating metaphysicians.

i have many funny stories about the metaphysician. one of my favorite ones was when he spent three months writing a paper on the nature of desire, which often prevented him from coming to bed with me. so night after night, i had to think of ingenious ways to get him to set the paper aside, and put the nature of his desire into practice.
