Times are changing, my dears. I see more signs of it every day, oh yes - we are moving. Pieces in a chess game, my dears, moving like us. One can only hope that they change for the better, I personally see it getting more dire day by day, for myself at least. The tower seems so unquestionably lonely at times, in the company of one's own thoughts. ( Read more... )

There certainly is a lot of chess talk on these books lately. Has it been made part of the Hogwarts curriculum, then?

I thought it came from observing and reflecting upon crystal balls or teacups? Though I suppose those do qualify as surroundings.

My surroundings are not particularly revealing--just noisy. All those motorbike demonstrations for potential but inevitably "just browsing, thanks" customers, you know.

Items such as crystal balls and the shapes of tea leaves are only aids to help us see what is around us. To truly understand the future, we must understand the present, and of course - the past.
