Do you know about Henry Bear's Park on Huron Ave. in Cambridge? It's a fantastic toy store.

It is, though it is also outrageously overpriced.

Yes, we've been there and browsed and bought a few things. Partly, I'm looking for opinions on toys before we buy into one of the different sets of things (plan city? playmobil? etc.), since there seems to be an opportunity cost associated with getting one thing. For instance, we got a couple sets of Gears toys, which are cool, but all there are of that type, while the "Gears Gears Gears" seem to have more expansions and similar functionality/play-value.

It's also the "yet another building toy" that is similar...

And, yes, I'm starting to gag on spending $35 for a not fancy toy; used toys seem to be much much cheaper - but one has to know what to look for.

If you're on the net a lot, freecycle gets toy kitchens through with some regularity. You have to move pretty fast, though.

Good point - I'll join...

Interested in a playmat for infant?

Ditto the Arlington parents list. There have been kitchens and activity tables going begging within the last week.

I haven't noticed either... I'm on the Arlington parents list.

Do you "do" plastic toys that make noise/music/take batteries? If so, I may have a thing or two that might be good for Razi, that my two really loved when they were standing to play with everything.

Yes, if they're not too obnoxious. Thanks :-)

Alice has really enjoyed the wooden fruit basket from Melissa & Doug. She's also really into the Leapfrog Music Table that someone else mentioned. We just got it (used, cheap) and I wish we'd had it earlier.

Ok - cool; I have a couple activity tables; I should perhaps get the other one back up. We have the one with the chair for her to sit/stand in up.

I am contemplating play food...

Brio trains for Will, but they can get very expensive very quickly.

I think I have tons of infant toys somewhere in a box I can try to find.

I will add that Will is not as train obsessed as Benjamin (really, almost no one is) so, while I think he would like the Brio trains, just getting a random fleet of various vehicles might be just as much fun for him if you don't want to get into the endless expensive track thing.

Well, we got a geotrax set & will see how he likes it. I'm not sure how excited Will would be by the different train car details. He's interested when we've seen them, but not too clear between the different ones.

We have more track than he can use on the train table; more might provide options, but that's more for adults at this stage.
