Do you know Alex & Jenise? They live in Cambridge Cohousing and I'm sure would be happy to talk to you about it. I can arrange an email introduction if you don't already know them.
Hmm, cool & thanks for the info :-) I went out & saw Mosaic Commons with my mom & her partner, since they are working on moving up here & were interested.
It got me thinking about it a lot too; I really enjoyed living in a group house & community is really nice. I'm not really doing SCA much now, between time, kids, and a bit of "been there, done that". The idea of kids being able to grow up with a close community is really nice too.
Berlin is very far out, though good for tech jobs on 495. Of course, I can't both like the setting of having woods and such to wander through & grumble about it being more rural than I'm used to.
well, i am a member of CAmelot, which is a sister-group to Mosaic.
the moniker i have heard used about the two groups was that Camelot is geeks with hippy tendencies and Mosaic is Hippies with geek tendencies
the economic climate sucks for housing right now, and the houses in both communities cost what they cost, regardless of how the bank evaluates them. none the less, iam still continuing with moving to Camelot, because the advantages of the community living outweigh the drawbacs i think
And I'm a member of Mosaic (not sure if you knew that?). I've been involved with the project since almost the beginning (summer of 2000) so obviously I'm highly committed and invested - so take that as it is.
Goldsquare and Calygray make fair points (except that you would be buying a finished home at this point since we're getting certificates of occupancy as I type) about the financials. It's not without risks, but those of us that have gone forward to this point feel that the benefits of community outweigh the temporary economic climate.
Coming to see the communities and meeting folks to decide if you're interested in considering the financial risks/benefits carries no commitment. We have folks check us out all the time for varying lengths of time. Some stay, some don't. It's all fine.
And btw, I think ya'll would be a great fit in either group!
Hey Alia! It was nice to meet you and your several-generation family yesterday. I won't answer your question here about MC/CC because I'm obviously much too biased. But I agree with ghislaine that you (and your mom of course!) would be a good fit.
Hi Diane & thanks. It was very nice to meet you too! I think my mom & her partner are definitely interested and figuring things out.
I've liked the idea of co-housing in theory, but I'm not sure that being so far from the city is for us. Thinking about it lots though, as you can see :-)
The site & design are really quite lovely and there's a lot of appeal to the idea.
That's always nice to hear. I imagine that if S&V move in that you'll become an adjunct member of the community anyway (can you say "free babysitting" :-) so I'm sure we'll be seeing you around one way or another :-)

And I have a friend in Cambridge CH, too, though he was one of the founders so he's been involved since conception.
