I'm not a big fan of the "toss money at it" solution. A few of those countries are poor because the rulers are corrupt and keep all the aid money for their own uses. I'm in favour of helping them if the funds are actually going to help and not make a bunch of fat officials even fatter.

yeah I'd have to agree there is so much corruption there. At any rate, it's not that I'm against helping... just against some hypocrite telling everyone else how to help without doing anything else but talk.

I especially liked the statement that, if Martin doesn't fork over the money, he's going to lose in the next election.

Methinks the numbers touting widespread support by the Canadian public for the cause of helping poverty striken countries of the world are woefully inaccurate. Sure, it's nice to help others, but like you said, we have plenty of people here that need help too.

I read an article the other day in which he talked about how most people will likely forget about all the humanitarian work he's done but that his music will live on for hundreds of years because it's that important
