The debate seems to be stirring once again about whether or not the government of Ontario should pay for 3 IVF treatments for couples dealing with infertility issues. The same report this same government commissioned in 2008 has still yet to be implemented because the politicians fear how people will react to this use of tax dollars. Never mind ( Read more... )

it has been proven that it will ultimately reduce health care costs in the long run by restricting the number of implanted embryos to one per treatment cycle.

To me that should be the closing argument. I have no patience for public policy being decided because of fear of public ignorance and prejudice.

Ivf treatments are generally covered to a very significant extent in US insurance plans (at least the ones I've been on). So, yes, these people are basically railing against coverage that is considered mainstream even in pre reform American healthcare.
