Paranoia

Because this community seems to be getting quite infamous LOL. I was thinking (thanks to astarte99 who knows lots more stuff than me) that maybe we should friends lock a lot of the postings so at least that way we'd know exactly who was reading them ( Read more... )

Are we really getting infamous? You know, I'd never even thought to friends lock, mainly because there are some of my LJ friends I wouldn't like to know what I'd written anyway.

What do I do?

Well, if you post it hereand friend-lock it in the security level then only the members of sickchicks should be able to see it...if my understanding of these is is accurate...when you look at the extra option it has a little question mark beside the security level which explains the ins and outs of this...but you can't use custom in a community....

Does that help at all?

Er, I think so. Can I go back and do it retrospectively for the ones I've already posted, or is it too late?

I should imagine so...but I haven't tried here...so a little of the blind leading the blind...but I know that you can do so on your own LJ by editing the initial entry

My humble opinion as a non-writing member is that it's not wrong or self-righteous to want to know who's reading this stuff.
It's a scary enough thing putting any work into cyberspace to be critiqued.

If friends-locking helps our writers feel more comfortable and willing to share their work I'm for it.

Thank you... I feel better now.

Don't say that. We're a community and every single one of us is as important as the others. This is place for chatting and reccing as well as posting fic.

Sick plot bunnies are also very welcome.

I'm sorry. It never occurred to me that other authors may have a problem with people reading what was written here ::is stupid::

Maybe, if everyone agrees to post links to their own journals here if they want other people to read their stuff, then the community can become closed which will protect those who wish to remain behind closed doors.

No judgement either way, just, like I said, it hadn't occurred to me. And I guess I have encoureaged a few to browse the community - oops ::ducks head::

BTW - people are talking about us? Where? ::bounces::

It's great that you're encouraging people to look our way. I wear a great big sandwich board and march up and down begging for members every week or so, LOL and I'm happy for everyone to do the same ( ... )

Oh heck, no toes being trodden on at all.

It is a nice happy little playground isn't it? I just hope I didn't put anyone off posting with my fifth horseman of the apocalypse speech this morning LOL.

Why can't you be a member? You don't have to post fic.

Big question is...how old are you???? *winks* It's not about having stuff to post... and btw your fics have a lot of potential... it's about being old to read the filth.

I support friends-locking of posts. I was actually just feeling a little bit weird at finding out that this community was being talk about, realizing that due to my compulsive need to leave feedback, there are now Dani squees on posts that other ppl would find questionable or just plain icky (pheh, the unenlightened. *snort*) Which makes me more than a little bit uncomfortable.

(And and for your information, the ppl who were saying that they couldn't see posts that were made F/O, were not members. So it seems to be working like it's supposed to.)

When Helen and I started it, it stayed at about 8 members for so long that we didn't think anything about locking posts and things. It really didn't matter much then but now I think I would prefer it it was all friends only.

As you know I'm not clued up about lj at all. I seriously thought that a closed community would be just that.

It's nice to know that your playground may be nasty but it is safe...well safe for us all to talk about dirty smut as much as we like LOL.

Yeah, it seems kind of silly that making the default for the community posts be F/O is not an option when you are creating the community. Oh well, LJ is silly.

Knowing all of the little things about LJ take time (I have been around in one incarnation or another since early '01.) The FAQ do have lots of info, but also check out the community ljnifty - it's a forum about how to do cool stuff on LJ.

Locking the posts seems like a good idea, or it's probably just a matter of time till there is flaming of some kind or another.
