I would do the slip the number thing while you are signing your receipt?
Im just not sure. The only time i asked someone for their number while they were working... well... it didn't go well.

etiquette wise you can flirt shamelessly...but the person working has to give you their number etc.....but it depends on the place of work, the person, and how many people are around really.

That was kind of the plan. He works at Trader Joe's so I don't really think there will be any time to just chat with him...

he doesn't seem like the kind to give numbers out, but who knows....

I'd do it quietly. whenever someone shamelessly flirts with me (unless they are unbelievably attractive, not to say you aren't, but just that it hasn't yet happened that way) i'm much more likely to brush them off and try to hide. But if they give me a number or a note quietly, i'd definately call (assuming absense of apparent physical or mental deformity).

Just my thoughts.
