Progression

Busy day yesterday...

Busy day yesterday, as Tom and I started work on our new project. He wrote and directed the short film, and I noticed that we have two distinct styles of filmmaking. He likes to do minimal camera setups and multiple takes, while I'm one for elaborate shots and dozens of camera setups and angles but only a few takes. Of course, we're still learning how to work together, and re-learning the process behind this, so we'll be putting together the pieces and continuing to form our styles as we progress.

Based on my first directorial project and comparison to his work, I know a few things that I need to work on for next time:
- Rehearsals - we were rushed when we filmed mine, but we needed more rehearsal
- Blocking in advance - something we both agreed needed to be done for both of our films
- Looking past the camera and more into the performance of the actors - I need to improve my communication with my actors

I'm sure there are dozens more, but those are just the ones off the top of my head.

In other news, Mike has our first project, "Macgyver's Breakfast," and he should be putting it on [sic] in the next few weeks. It's pretty rough (it was the first thing any of us had filmed in years), but I was pleased with how it turned out. Technically, it's not the greatest thing in the world and can see little flaws, but overall, it's not that bad for a first-time effort. I'll let you know when it's posted so you can check it out.

And just a note, but this blog's turning fully [sic] in the next day or two. That means the personal stuff will be greatly reduced, although I'll throw something in here and there. If you're still interested in how I feel about things outside the [sic] family of networks, look for my personal blog.
