It's been a busy week, and the weekend will be even wilder...
- My best friend and partner-in-crime, Mike, is coming to visit DC this weekend, and he's finally going to meet the friends and girlfriend that he's heard so much about over these past few months. Outside of my girlfriend's (and her roommate's) birthday party on Saturday night, I'm not sure how "big" we'll take it, but it'll just be nice to chill with the kid for a bit. His wife is going out of town, as well, but she'll get to meet my girlfriend soon enough. I know they'll get along just fine, and I'm excited for Mike to meet the woman that I love!
- In keeping with the upward mobility of my life over the past several months, I took another step forward yesterday: I registered for my first screenwriting contest. It's called the NYV Midnight Shorts contest, and the basic idea is that the organizers give you a subject and an object, and a week later, you submit a script with those elements. The contest is broken up into heats, and the top qualifiers out of those heats later compete in another screenwriting contest to determine the winner. I haven't written a lot in the past few months (coming news to the contrary), so I don't expect to get to the next round, but it's nice to get back in the swing and work towards a deadline again. I'll keep you updated when the contest begins next weekend!
- One thing I have been doing is writing sketches, and the guys and I are set to film our first one of the year on Saturday morning. I'm fairly excited for the undertaking, but I'm also apprehensive because I have to play a REALLY embarassing part in it. Still, I wrote it and will direct, so I have no one to blame for this but myself. Mike's going to star in it, so I'll be keeping him involved. No promises until this ball is rolling, but I hope to have this video posted to YouTube before the screenplay contest. We'll see...
- I'm also writing episode 1 of my marathon training vlog, because I want to make these bits more structured than the episode 0 offering. That was more of an impromptu "I'm registering for a marathon, here we go" session, but in the future, I'd like to do more production, documentary-style, on this project. I'll probably have the script written this weekend and start filming, but I can't guarantee that I'll have another episode up in the next week or so. Still, just know that I'm continuing to train and work on this project - I'm not letting this opportunity slip through the cracks!
Here's to an awesome weekend!
