Thoughts on health care

I know most of you share the opinions I have on this so I fully realize I'm preaching to the choir. This just seemed like a nice venue for me to vent, aside from to poor Kirstin constantly ( Read more... )

Fucking word.

Glenn Beck took balls to the face as a kid. No, seriously! He was talking about it yesterday, to make himself sound all... impressive and learned. Or something.

It's funny hearing the right-wing nut-jobs spew about how the mandated purchase stomps on their liberties when they're the ones who demand that marriage be between a man and a woman... how do they not see the hypocrisy?

And why do so many people "oppose" the health care bill that was passed this weekend? Not because it's too sweeping, but because it's not drastic enough. People want STRONGER reform, not status quo.

I could go on for days. But instead, I'll just take pleasure knowing that the conservatives are taking a much-needed slap in the face. And I'll take comfort knowing the jackasses won't get this thing repealed anytime soon, because to do that, they'd have to be able to pass a bill repealing it, and then get enough of a majority to override a presidential veto. Bwahahaha!

Yeah the opposed numbers to the bill I've seen have been typically in the 40-45% range with 10-15% of those opposing because the bill isn't strong enough. So 25-35% oppose the bill for it being "the death of liberty" I suppose with the remainder wanting a public option and stronger programs. That's clearly a majority and enough to kill the thing.

I saw the other day a conservative blogger call this their Waterloo. It was nice to hear one of them have some sense and realize this for what it is, although I doubt the rest of them realize that they just ate it and will keep lying to themselves that American's didn't want this. If they want to have any chance in midterm elections they need to regroup with some new legislation of their own and quit trying to make themselves look good by just being little bitches to the democrats and impeding progress.

Damn right! I think most people our age not definitely share these sentiments if they're not a brainwashed religious zealot or high society jackoff.

I'm just happy I don't have to deal with finding freaking insurance until I'm 27 now since I'm still on my parents coverage that was set to expire come August!

I hope the insurance mandate isn't struck down. Preventative care is where it's at. Otherwise, people who should (and could now) go to a doctor regularly won't and will end up uninsured filling up ERs with something more serious. Besides, they could spin it to make it be a tax increase that you don't have to pay if you have/buy insurance. Courts couldn't strike that down since Congress has the authority to impose taxes.

I hope so too, I'm not overly optimistic about the prospects of it sticking though with the conservative leanings of the Supreme Court. I definitely think of it as a tax sort of thing (similar to social security to some extent, although not a privatized system) but whether they do or not remains to be seen.

I think it's funny too because a lot of Republicans want to open up social security for people to do as they choose with it (but still have it be mandatory)... wouldn't that be the same as health care here? :)

Oh hypocrisy....

I always feel a bit embarrassed whenever I watch the news on US happenings here, and I see people holding up signs like "Hands off my Healthcare" and the like. It just strikes me as odd that people would fight against something that can actually help them ( ... )

But what do I know, I get social healthcare--wait I'm uninsured but I still pay less than my US insurance would cover ;)

In that vein Jersey's new (corrupt) governor slashed all the school budgets statewide. In his convoluted logic just about every school in the county saw a 10-15% cut in their state funding. Southern? 3 million down to 400k. 84% cut. How did they do that math?

Funny read: Asbury Park Press.

Oh my god. That's... unfathomable. I mean, it sounds ridiculous, like something we'd joke about.

They did that math on a 16% budget.. that affords a calculator with three buttons and 1/4 of a page in a basic math book.
