I always assumed that Sheetrock was just there to give you something to paint/keep insulation from falling into your soup/keep out bears/whatever, but apparently, it actually serves a structural purpose. De nada. I have to admit, I'd prefer to have an real professional carpenter/contractor weigh in on this, because it's sitting right on the edge of plausibility for me, but the author is at least fairly well regarded in his actual field (biology).
