Got a new video card. GeForce 6600 GT. All 6600s are PCI express based, so the AGP cards (like the one I got) have a translation chip to go to AGP. After installing it, I was putting the case cover back on rather carelessly (with the comp on), and I shorted something... Video went out on the comp and I smelled burning... If you mean software/driver, then usually just moving the hard drive over to the new motherboard will make it work (it *might* ask for the xp cd the first time you boot) and it'll spend a while detecting new hardware... Usually not the ideal situation as the installation gets more bloated than usual, but it should work...
As far as activation goes, I'm not sure what M$ policy is... Either way you'd probably have to call them when it asks to activate again (which it will do if you're using a "legitimate" copy).
