SVU ShipSwap Letter
Dear SVU ShipSwap Writer or Artist,
First, thank you first for reading this letter, and for potentially creating for one of my requested ships! I hope I can give you some ideas and inspiration, and I really appreciate the effort that goes into writing a story to someone else’s request.
In general I think I’m fairly easy to please, and I would simply be thrilled to see more work about any of these ships and characters. If one of my prompts inspires you, terrific! If not and you have your own idea for any of them, by all means feel free to run with it. I won’t be disappointed if you don’t follow my prompts but I know some people prefer to work from them, so it’s totally your choice.
Also, please know that I am equally enthusiastic about receiving gifts for any of these ships, whether or not I have lengthy prompts or details below for them or not.
I’ve tried to offer some different prompts compared to what I’ve requested for other ongoing summer ship swaps - just in case I end up being assigned to the same author twice for any of them (in which case, sorry! But I hope I’ve given you some different ideas to work with, along with at least some different ships?)
General likes/things I enjoy in fic (especially in the SVUniverse):
1. Amy Solwey/John Munch
I was thinking, I would love something like an epistolary story for these two-letters or emails written over time as a way they communicate and slowly grow closer to each other. Their relationship was so fascinating and complicated on the show, I would like seeing how their initial conflicting views would resolve. John would certainly be drawn to her intelligence even if they didn’t always see eye-to-eye on various ethical questions. In fact I think he’d love the chance to debate them with someone he’d be able to talk with on an equal level. I can imagine something blossoming between them that neither really expected.
Art-wise anything romantically sweet would be lovely, or one/both fondly reading letters from the other.
2. John Munch/Nick Amaro
My dirty/bad/wrong ship I secretly ship so hard! Well, maybe not so secretly. This is one I’d really love some explicit smut for, John turning Nick on to a side of himself that he never knew he had and once he starts, he can’t get enough of it. Maybe even some long distance phone sex after Nick leaves for California, and he just can’t let go of that part of his time in New York/at SVU.
Art-wise: This could be something laced with innuendo and longing without having to be explicit-John leaning over Nick’s shoulder at his desk at work and the air between them is pure sex. Or stealing a kiss touch somewhere secretly (After hours at the 16th?) Gorgeous men who look hot in suits. That’s about all I have to say!
3. John Munch/Odafin "Fin" Tutuola
Oh, anyone who knows me knows my love for this ship (but don’t think that means it’s the only one I want, or that I’d want it more than the others here). I will never say no to there being more Munch & Fin stories out there in the world! These two are my happy shippy place.
Angst, humor, first-time, established relationship…I love it all with these two. Silly fluff even. I know “curtain fic” has become a joke about suppoedly "plotless" fluff where characters shop for curtains together or do other mundane/domestic things, but that’s really my jam with Munch & Fin (because it seems rather ridiculous to imagine them doing these things, and yet of course they would, especially if they ever move in together and try to sort out their new home together.)
Stories about how their family members react to their relationship are also something I'd love to see explored more. Or coming out (purposefully or accidentally) to their coworkers, how their relationship is accepted (or not?) in the workplace.
I’d also enjoy some cracky, silly fic based on any textsfrommunchandfin post, just for the ridiculousness of it.
I also have a craving for some dark!fic AUs with this ship...something very different from what we normally read but playing off some of the darker elements that wouldn't be a far extrapolation from canon. Playing off the idea that Munch killed in cold blood in Homicide (Gordon Pratt, if you buy that theory)...what if he did turn much darker after that and maybe went over the edge? Started killing criminals they never could convict-and Fin found out? Went along with it? What if John got so mad at Elliot when Fin put in his transfer request that he snapped? Or what if he decided to go after Darius personally for all the grief he caused Fin, Teresa, and everyone else at SVU? Like a total Hannibal/Will-style "murder husbands" AU if you feel up to it.
Art-wise: I just want all the art for these two! Comfy snuggling on the sofa, maybe-John with a book while Fin is playing one of his video games. Any excuse for them to be in their dress uniforms-maybe getting ready for a police gala or event together. Exchanging glances across their desks at the 16th when they think no one is paying attention.

Gimme gimme gimme. Oh I’m sorry, you need something more specific? Here are a few potential scenarios.
“You two have had each other all of these years, what have I got?”
Something set in and around season 13, when Olivia is still having a hard time letting go of Elliot (as a partner, friend, maybe the lover she always thought he might be someday?) A night of John & Fin comforting their longtime friend, trying to help her let go and move on, turns into something more. Alcohol may or may not be heavily involved, but I don’t want it to be something they regret the next day.
“Care to join us?”
Olivia accidentally catches John and Fin up to some frisky business. She’s embarrassed, but also hella turned on. John and Fin aren’t so embarrassed, but are more than happy to share some fun for the night. Maybe it turns into a regular thing, maybe not.
Art-wise: Something along either of the above lines. Or just the three of them sharing an embrace with clear love and affection all around.

I think part of me shipped this all the way back to the first season (maybe especially then, before Fin showed up) because I thought they had such a sweet dynamic. And deep-the scenes I remember the most are when he finds out about her being the child of a rape and goes searching to find information for her. Yes, John is rather fatherly/like an uncle to Olivia at times…but what if his feelings ran in a more romantic direction (as did hers?)
Maybe one night they had a bit of a drunken fling, thought better of it and moved on…but years later there’s still something there that needs to be addressed or considered more seriously. Maybe John never says anything to her about his real feelings until he’s retired and it’s no longer a conflict at the 16th. Maybe he sees her struggling with the job, Noah, and a building problem with alcohol and steps in to try to help her-including with his love for her (feel free to ignore Tuckson completely. No hate just not a ship I’m big on.) I secretly kind of love that idea, their years of friendship someday turning into something more like that.
Art-wise: I’m sorry I’m not more specific here, but…anything romantic and a little wistful?

- Case-fics where the case somehow have an impact on the characters’ relationship. Maybe a friend or family member is threatened or in danger; maybe the case risks “outing” their relationship; maybe the case and stressful situations surrounding it is the impetus for the characters finally realizing and admitting to their feelings for each other.
- Snappy, good dialog that feels in character to the source.
- Stories that use the ensemble cast of SVU well, while still focusing on the ship at hand.
- Hurt/comfort (emotional or physical) and angst, provided there is some hope/happy ending eventually.
- Romance/relationship stories with or without smut. Don't feel that you have to write explicit sex scenes if you don't want to, I equally love stories without them (sometimes even more so). As long as the relationship is front in center to the work-and with the characters as more than friends (or it's about how they become more than friends)-then I’m totally cool with it. I just don’t want strictly gen/friendship fics, please.
- Extended kissing scenes (hickeys, marking, biting optional but yummy if you like)
- Frottage/getting off on each other while still fully/mostly clothed
- Light bondage and sensation denial (rope, handcuffs, blindfolds)
- Toys (vibrators, dildos, cockrings)
- Roleplay discipline (spanking, servicing)
- Tattoos (getting them to celebrate a milestone, enjoying on how hot they look on a particular person)
- Characters in a relationship just generally having fun exploring different kinks and sexual experiences. Given the field they work in, these are experiences they should understand as things many people enjoy in healthy and happy relationships.
- Omegaverse. It’s not normally my big thing although I’ve enjoyed stories in other fandoms that were more about the world building than the eventual ships and smut. And I can’t help but wonder how fascinatingly different sex crimes/SVU might be, the kind of cases they’d have to deal with, in an alpha/beta/omega-type universe. I don’t know if I’ve ever really seen that explored before in this fandom, so I would certainly be interested in seeing it.
- Soul-bonding/soul-marks on skin. Again, another idea that would seem to lead to all sorts of different sexual politics, rules, laws and crimes.
- 24/7 BSDM, relationships that are focused solely on heavy dom/sub dynamics and power imbalances
- Permanent marking (besides tattoo!)/scarring/disfigurement/disability
- Graphic rape/assault (stories about rape recovery are fine; I’m just not into the detailed descriptions of the assaults themselves)
- Character death (unless canonical, and even then, death!denial is A-OK with me).
- Threesomes that aren’t equal (ie, two guys + one girl where the guys are only into the girl and don’t touch/get sexual with the each other)
- Gender or sex/swap
- High school/college/coffeeshop AUs.
