Irony, eh? Mom and I had an appointment yesterday afternoon to go look at the Day Ave. house.....I found out about probably losing my job in the morning.

1924, I swear it has the exact same light fixtures! The laundry chute, yup! bathroom vanity miror in the upstairs bathroom, yup! Exact same door knobs and locks! (which are very easy to pick) I love my grandparents house! It has dormer windows too.

yes, the basement is "daylight" so it has a door and some windows. the food celar is actually used for canned foods (or was several years ago when my grandmother made home made black berry syrup, yum!) For the coal, there was a shut, that to the modern eye is used a second driveway, just bellow the kitchen window (modern bay) there is a detached garage. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a87/amandalady/grandparentshouse.jpg
What a beautiful house. I can see why you would fall just a little bit in love with it. I'm very sorry about your job. I hope you will be able to buck the odds and find a new, even better one, very quickly.
My dad (a chemist) told me a couple of years ago about a paint he mixed and used to stop a basement in Florida from leaking. I should get the recipe from him, if he can remember what he did, and post it.
Oh, I hope you may be able to keep your job, especially if you like it. I hadn't known that was still a possibility. But, whatever happens, I hope it all works out for you.
It IS possible....they could choose option B instead of option A (instituting unpaid furloughs of 10 days for employees instead of closing 2 branches) but we're on a razor's edge right now.

I love the early 20th century for home-building. :)
