It actually DID come a something of a surprise, yes. I didn't honestly know they were using the same algorithm as our old MN driver's license numbers until I saw this mention of it in the article. I don't watch much television or make a habit of reading newspapers, so I mostly rely on water cooler gossip, internet message boards, and other such semi-scrupulous forms of information retrieval. After all, it's at least as good as the National Enquirer or the Daily Mail.

Knowing that it is however, I'm not at all surprised that it's not working, I just wrongly expected better because I tend to be hopeful until proven incorrect. I'm rapidly gaining an "adverse first, ask questions later" stance however after spending the last 18 months talking to people who actually work in the middle of our government and then reading a plethora of information from others I don't personally know who happen to leak info to aggregate sites like Bruce's.

I'm not on the no fly list(which is no surprise considering I work for the dept of homeland security).
