No fooling. We didn't invent nothing, folks. I just watched a silent 1922 Sherlock Holmes movie starring John Barrymore, which was based on a 1899 play initially written by Conan Doyle and rewritten by lead actor William Gillette, with Conan Doyle's permission.

Ooh, that must have been fun! I'm sure Nimoy learned all he needed to know about being a ham from Shatner. :-D This film was largely a drag. Lots of scenes of people standing around and talking...in a silent movie. Recognizing Roland Young and William Powell was the best part!

I love William Powell! I may have to look this film up. I used to be interested in everything Holmes, but have definitely mellowed out.

I wish I hadn't promptly deleted it from my DVR when I finished watching it, because it took me a Very Long Time to identify William Powell, so I totally missed that it was him back in the Cambridge scenes that set up his character. Ah, well.

It is definitely an interesting artifact!
