My thoughts.... Stupid stupid stupid. Hated the books. Poorly written, totally not plausible. Read sooo many better books in that genre. Although they were m/m. I won't see the movie. I couldn't get past the first chapter in book 3. I must be in the minority as everyone I talk to thinks these books are the best thing they ever read. :/

Ditto. I read excerpts online, and couldn't get past her "Holy cow!" reaction the first time she saw him naked. The writing level of a 12 year old.

imdb has a 3.9 rating, but it raked in $90M...that so many people want to pay good money to see such crap explains a lot about the taste level in this country. I have absolutely no problem with the subject matter, only how it is presented.

Anne Rice (Interview with the Vampire) has written some very good bdsm under the name of A. N. Roquelaure, The Sleeping Beauty trilogy.

An amusing read about her endless use of holy cow, holy shit, holy fuck.....oh yes, and oh jeez....

Holy crap.

i read those books by anne rice back in the day and they were very new and exciting at the time. i think one of the reasons i'm having a hard time getting worked up about 50 Shades is that i've been reading and writing outside the mainstream romance for the last few years, and reading some stuff even before m/m caught hold of me ( ... )

i haven't read a whole lot in the genre. i don't hate bdsm, but all the formality of it, etc, doesn't appeal. give me an old fasioned OTK spanking any day. :) but i did read the anne rice sleeping beauty books back in the day, and remember the J&E story that was really good... i think it was by wannabebrit... i can't recall any details, but Ennis had a playroom - it was well done, imo. i've read a couple in the supernatural fandom that are good as well ( ... )

I read the books and saw the first movie and in both cases I believe this is a fairy story with a very rich man and an innocent girl, so I am not see the other couple of movies. But I remember someone writing and leaving unfinished a very good bdsm story about Jack and Ennis. Maybe now that you retired you could finish some of those stories left. Thank you very much and congrats. Martha

i think that was wannabebrit that wrote the J&E bdsm story. it was really good.i can't recall the name of it but i'm sure someone out there has a copy.

overall, bdsm isn't my thing at all, but i've read a few stories in the Supernatural fandom that i enjoyed, plus the one in BBM. Lawgoddess also wrote a story that dabbled in that, i believe, altho it wasn't hardcore at all. i enjoyed it too. it was called Stranded, and it's in her karisblue journal.

i hope to write some more soon. i'm going to Florida to see my bff for a few days. hopefully life will settle down in march and i can maybe get back to it. :)

Congrats for your retirement - oh, how I wish I could do the same !! ....

I have the books in pdf, but cannot make myself to read them, so many bad reviews ! (I leave in Europe) and the movie is a waste of time - I didn't see any of the movies battling for an Oscar yet ! Oh, wait, Grand Hotel Budapest is now on HBO - seems funny, especially since I work in hotels ;o) Getting back to the books: I don't know anything about BDSM, but I read a specialist's opinion and it demolishes the books from this pov - the author doesn't know anything about this subject ! I'm really curious what you think about it... A colleague of mine - a man, if you believe it - tremendously enjoyed the books, he said they are funny, especially how SHE manipulates him until she gets everything she wants from him !! ;o) HA !! So, you see, there are a lot of opinions.

Have fun and enjoy your free time ! and get back to writing !!!

i enjoyed the first book and got hung up halfway through the second one - the plot took a turn i didn't anticipate or care for. but it's not an awful thing - nothing unforgiveable - and i'll probably finish it in the next few days. i am with your friend - the books are fun, they're kinda hot, the author is mostly clueless about everything in the stories, but in the big scheme of things, it doesn't matter because the characters are likeable and interesting and she made me want to keep reading. some things are more over-the-top ridiculous than others, but nothing was bad enough to kill my enjoyment in the overall story ( ... )

It's Twilight fanfic, I have no interest in reading it or seeing the movie.
