Awesome!

I just read about an IKEA hack where they used IKEA Billy shelves, then framed them with drywall and moulding to look like built-ins.

Do you want some help? I'm not entirely free but I might be able to come give a hand here and there. And well, I'm pretty damned experienced with spackling, plastering, sanding, painting, at this point. Oh, and if Scirocco wants to use our tablesaw to build bookshelves that fit recessed into the wall between the existing studs, let him know he's welcome to come over and I'd be happy to help him out as much as I can. For that matter, assuming you're lucky enough that the studs are a standard width apart, there actually are pre-built bookshelves that are already meant for this purpose!
