Last week, my beloved (if ancient) LJ layout stopped working. I had to pick a new layout, and I am grumpy about it still. Have I ever mentioned how much I don't like change

It's amazing what you're doing with that space. Yes, it must be mind-bogglingly exhausting to do, but A) I think you're younger than me, so you'll recover sooner, and B) the work you put into it now will last for years.
Thank you1 I have to say, so far it's really been more Wiley doing the work - it's been a lot of the heavy lifting that I can't do, while I work around the edges getting the little stuff done. I get to swing into full on action now that we've gotten to the spackling and painting stages, which is this weekend.
Even so, it has been exhausting, especially when everything keeps expanding in scope and causing delays (we lost nearly a week to the electrical work, the bookcases took far longer than I expected, etc.) and it's not been nearly the relaxing month of no kid we were hoping for, but it is going to be SO worth it when we're finished!
"it's not been nearly the relaxing month of no kid we were hoping for" I hear you. Someone asked me yesterday what I'm going to do when Em goes to college in two weeks. She didn't think my answer sounded very fun:"Knitting, reading, cleaning the house better." If I'd been even more honest, I would have said, "Tear apart the contents of the garage, my greenhouse, and the cellar, and throw shit out!" That wouldn't have sounded very fun either, but if you have any ambition beyond treading water in this life, and I think it's clear you do, you get a lot of satisfaction from some pretty hard labor, and the knowledge that you're saving considerable money by doing the work yourself.
That's funny! It's not like your life is going to radically change, and suddenly you have the burning desire to go party every night. You'll just have more time to do the things you like, and the puttering that non-parents take for granted.
I am glad that we had this long window to do the project - there's no way we could have done all this with her here, since she'd have no place to sleep! It's definitely less stressful being able to do all the work without the needs of a 9 year old to take into account as well.
I do hate change, and yes, life is full of it right now. It's been a bit of a stressful month.
I particularly hate technical change - one I get something that works for me, I hate having to learn new stuff, even when that stuff actually makes my life easier instead of harder.
Oh, yeah, and that happens all the time here in the future. Janet just got upgraded to a newer version of Windows, and of course everything is in different places. The places are different.
I got it Jordan's furniture, which is a local chain. But the company that makes it is Vermont Tubbs, and it looks like they sell through stores all over the country.

Though I do note that you start out saying how little you like change, and then the rest of the post is about all the changes you're making. ;)

I've found it surprisingly helpful in learning where things are in Word and Excel.
