things in the dark

It's 12:35 at night. Or in the morning, however you look at it. I'm very comfortable outside at night in the dark. I always have been. Watching the stars, experiencing nature in the dark. I belong there. A very strange weather situation has developed. Today it was 66 degrees outside, a new record high for the day. Yesterday morning it was a ( Read more... )

Yay for nightwatching, I have always loved the dark, even as a kid I was more fascinated by night time than day. I remember going nature-tracking in the woods at the bottom of my parents garden, i'd find all sorts down there, mostly hedgehogs, but occasionally you'd see a deer or a rare blue fox. Mostly I saw the neighbours cats (who were probably after all the mice, shrews and hedgehogs lol). But quite a few times i'd sneak off out when everyone thought I was asleep hehe.
One memory that really sticks in my mind is when I was coming to a clearing, I saw a tawny owl, it was so beautiful and up until that point, i'd always had a bit of a fear of owls but that seemed to cure me.

In recent years though, most of the woods has been knocked down and turned into farmland, plays havoc with hayfeever! And I heard that they'd found a dead man in those woods last year too - glad I never came across that! DX

Cool....nightwatching, I like that! My parents house is in a dense midtown neighborhood, no woods there, but just 5 blocks down is a small park with woods and extinct railroad tracks that go off into the distance. I used to go down there all the time as a kid, not in the dark of course but it was fun all the same. I always had to be extremely careful of poison ivy because I'm horribly allergic to it. My house is a bit further south than my parents and my neighborhood borders one of the largest city parks in town. A creek runs through it right into the park which makes a perfect way for wildlife to get in here. I have seen fox occasionally but mostly, every Spring, a fox has marked my backyard as his territory. My younger sister used to always say she wished she could find a dead body, LOL.
