Abilities

Sif possesses the conventional attributes of an Asgardian woman ("goddess"). Like all Asgardians, she is extremely long-lived (although not immortal like the Olympians), superhumanly strong (the average Asgardian female can lift about 25 tons; Sif can lift 30 tons) immune to all diseases, and resistant to conventional injury (Asgardian flesh and bone is about 3 times as dense as similar human tissue, contributing to all Asgardians' superhuman strength and weight). Sif's Asgardian metabolism gives her far greater than human endurance during all physical activities. Sif has extensive training in unarmed combat as well as swordsmanship. Her natural fighting ability is only surpassed among Asgardian women by Brunnhilda the Valkyrie.

Just one of the boys. That's pretty much Sif in a nutshell. Growing up in Asgard, where patriarchy still technically reigns, Sif knew she was more than just a pretty face and long hair. Her best friend was Thor Odinson, and from a young age she always knew she wanted to be a warrior. It's her skill as a soldier that defines her, and Sif takes pride in the fact that to most people, she's one of the boys. She doesn't necessarily think being a woman is something to be considered weak, but if push comes to shove, she'd rather stab things with the pointy end of a sword than sit away from battle in frilly gowns.

Sif has a strong will and and a stubborn streak. She's not exactly the voice of reason in her group of friends of Valstagg, Hogun, Fandral and Thor, but by comparison she is the most reasonable among them. Sif is the first to stand up and say that they need to defy the law of King Loki and go rescue Thor from Midgard, and Sif is the first to put herself in harm's way to protect her friends. She is a loyal person, but her loyalty depends on who you are. Prove yourself to her in battle or by skill, and you've a friend for good.

She does not want to be a man, though. Sif is probably the closest thing Asgard has to a feminist, believing that she is as capable, if not more so, than any male warrior Asgard can throw at her, and will use her skills to back up her opinion if anyone decides to doubt. It isn't that she dislikes dressing up in fancy dresses and looking pretty; Sif just prefers to be out kicking ass rather than looking like an ornament. She doesn't begrudge any ladies who enjoy those types of things, though. She may be pushy and headstrong, but she isn't the type of person to push her ideals onto other people.

She's also a bit of a follower, rather than a leader. She's not afraid to speak her mind, nor is she afraid to defy orders, but she's more likely to take orders rather than give them, and she is fine with that. Sif knows she's not the leaderly type; she prefers to follow Thor into battle. She does know, however that Thor, her best friend, regards her as an equal, as do her friends the Warriors Three. She feels no less a woman for doing as she's told, and she feels no less a person because of her womanhood. She may be smaller in size, and slightly less strong than her male counterparts, but she makes it work.

There are sides to her that aren't just warrior, though. She can joke and tease, though her sense of humor might be considered more stereotypically mannish than what might be considered proper for a lady. She knows how to act the lady, and will during formal occasions, but on nights out with her Asgardian bros, she can keep up in drinks and carousing, though the more oafish behavior will cause her to roll her eyes. Sif is probably the only person who can keep Thor in line, and is also probably one of the few Asgardians who isn't afraid to call him out on his crap, whether teasingly or seriously.
