First of all, thank you everyone for all your kind responses. I really appreciate it. Unfortuantely everyone has different advice (my mother thinks I need to suck it up, be an adult, and see a therapist if I'm unhappy because everyone else works their job to pay the rent like a gown up) and I don't know what to do and I'm getting torn apart. I ( Read more... )

Talking to someone who is not involved in any way, can be a wondeful thing. I'll admit I see a counselor, and it has really helped me. Try it, i think it will really help you to get in touch with yourself

I just wish I didn't have a life so depressing I needed counseling to feel better about it.

I don't get it. I was really happy right before I met my soul mate and I've been depressed ever since. That doens't make any sense and it hurts a lot.

You don't have to be depressed to see a counselor. Your life doesn't have to be falling apart to get someone to talk to. So stop feeling so bad about it. there is NOTHING wrong with talkign to a therapist. IF you feel like that you've been depressed ever since you met sam, you should definatly talk to someone, it will help you figure out what is causing those feelings, and who knows you may have one of those A-HA moments and everything will get better. But you wn't unless you stick your neck out there and try.

You told me when I visited you last year (scratch that, make it too long ago) that for a while in college, living at the co-op, you were too stable but you loved it. Then you ran off to sea, bounced job to job living around SoCal and the Bay Area, and you were too unstable but you loved it. Finding that balance is what you were after; spending some time at each extreme is what you were doing first.

The question of what to do if you meet the perfect person, but at totally the wrong place and time is not answerable in any definite way. You need to find the answer that works for you. What I'm hearing here is that the answer you have been working with so far is really not working. You're going to need to find another answer that makes things work.

Seeing someone to talk about it is a pretty good idea so that you can get your thoughts in order and try to get a handle on what's setting up your unhappy reaction to what you think is in all other respects a great situation.

anna i am the aforementioned mitch
and i think we actually may have actually met
and/or sailed with each other -- did you sail
out of LA harbor with LAMI, by any chance?
and even if you didn't, we still need to get
together pretty soon -- summer is upon us --
we gotta concoct adventures and stuff.
do you know about the movie screenings
in the old hollywood forever cemetary?

I feel like we have met, but maybe just because I've heard so much about you. Allison never mentioned that you sailed though - I have sailed out of the LA harbor but not officially with LAMI - I was on the Lady Washington and the Hawaiin Chieftain, and took a couple sails on the Exy Johnson. I've had friends who have worked for LAMI.

I would love to get together for adventures. I am in desperate need for adventures. I do not know about these movies, but I would like to.

What is your schedule like? I'm free Sundays and Monday and sometimes Saturdays.

Okay.
I have an idea.
read this http://www.esotouric.com/fante
and tell me if it sounds like a good time.
i'm down if you are. the 16th is coming up.

otherwise, all you'll get from me are native-led
tours of Griffith Observatory (stretching into the
evening hours so we get to use the big telescope),
only slightly educated art historian's tours of
the Getty Museum (with emphasis on photography
and the classicist painters from the school of Caravaggio),
a movie or two at the Arclight and Egyptian in Hollywood,
exciting and somewhat dangerous rides on the subway,
museum tours of Bergamot Station, MOCA, LACMA, the
Hammer, the Norton Simon, and a very memorable
portrait session. so really, I hope you choose the Fante.

do you know Fante?
I can lend you the books, don't worry.

whatdya say?

I was actually up in the bay area this weekend getting a tattoo, but I'd love to do everything you mentioned. What days are you free? I'll be off Sundays and Mondays this summer.
