I'm so sorry that this Burning Man was such a letdown for you. I also wish we had had more time to hang out together. I've talked with some coworkers and friends who were there, too, and nobody found anybody else they knew would be there, save two, who saw each other only once, in passing. So the playa goes, perhaps - you get what you bring in, magnified by a thousand. Trepidation and anxiety are poor traveling companions :-\
I'd love to know about the hostel you stayed in. I may have someone I'd like to escape for a weekend with in the next few months.
Truly a great place. They have a kitchen, so if you bring your own food you never have to leave. And they serve organic coffee in the morning.
Yeah, I guess I was never in the right head space for burning man. I think I just had my fill last year. I don't think I'm meant to be a yearly participant. There's just too much else out there that I want to experience, that doing the same thing at the same place every year isn't for me. Sam wants to go every year, but it's probably healthy for us to learn to be apart for a week.
hi anna! i'm glad things are awesome with you and sam. i think of you often and am glad to hear from you. that's weird about burning man--what do you mean someone burned down the man when you got there? why, though? isn't the point to burn him at the end of the week? whatever--i'm glad you went to burning man nonetheless--sky and i hope to go next year. (and i mean really really hope to go.) anyway. i also miss the bay area. i hope you fulfill your dream of getting back there sometime soon. i'm sorry i didn't get a chance to visit you and say good-bye and meet sam the last time i was in LA--it was kind of crazy, and we were exhausted. but i would still like to keep somewhat in contact with you--we have now officially known each other for 3 years! if you want, drop me a line. i check my email far more often than i check livejournal anymore. my email is mariclare.is@gmail.com and when you are a roadie, and happen to be on the east coast--stop by upstate connecticut and say hi!
