Beginner tutorial using Photoshop CS.

Layer 1: Base.  Crop and resize.
Layer 2: Duplicate base set to softlight. Sharpen, may want to fade sharpen and/or blur skin.
Layer 3: Duplicate layer 2 set to screen.
Layer 4: Layer>>New Adjustment Layer>>Curves
