The Friday Five
Our state fair is a great state fair or so the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical would lead you to believe.
Not that we will have much chance this year to attend something but let’s pretend we will be. If you haven’t been to a fair, then substitute a fete, carnival or some other attraction (excluding theme parks) that you’ve attended.
1. When was the last time you went to a state or county fair? Around here we mostly have county or town fairs. I last went over a decade ago. The big fair in our city that covered all eastern Ontario went bankrupt years ago.
2. Did you try your hand at the midway games? Not since I was a child. I sometimes let my son try them.
3. Which of the rides were your favorite, either now or as a kid?
The Tilt-a-Whirl and the Zipper.
4. Did you ever enter anything into the exhibits? How did you do?
I don’t think so, but I lived in the country and was in 4H as a kid, so maybe? It was expected in those circumstances. Obviously, I didn’t do well enough to bring home memorable prizes.
5. What is your best memory that you take from a fair?
I love to look at the animals. The horse shows, the pony carts, the prize-winning pigs and chickens etc. I also like to look at alll the food and craft entries.
