The source of the hologram was easily given away, the smoke from the cigarette easilly showing the emersion point of the projectors embedded into the desk.

Ashton sat back in his chair, reading the text typing itself on the three dimensional image before him, showing his own medical log. He'd just finished going over his own military profile, and begun to wonder just what else the Federation's databases had on him. Wondering what they had on his past, what they may hold for him in the future.

He read a bit more and then closed his eyes, rubbing the bridge of his nose lightly with one hand, the opposite arm rising over his head in a tight stretch. He took the lit cigarette from the ashtray, watching the dimly glowing cherry before putting to his lips and drawing a drag from the rolled tobacco.

He flicked the ashes from the tip and rose to his feet. With a beep from the console, the hologram suddenly disappeared, taking his medical profile with it. He was beginning to grow tired of all the injuries, drug details, and possible defects with his own genetic structure.

"... 'Created in God's image' they say. Fucking religious fanatics. And yet, here we are. The human race. Imperfect," he spoke to himself, stretching again. He crushed the cigarette in it's ashtray, strolling away from his console and moving to a viewport on the other side of the cubicle.

Outside, several thousand points of light flickered, some closer by a few tends of light years; the smallest pinpoint, possibly one million lightyears away. A couple smaller ships passed the field of vision, running their usual sweeps, the pale hue of their engines disappearing shortly after. Thank God for being a ground troop, he thought to himself as he pushed away from the viewport.

He turned, walking towards the hatch of his quarters, grabbing his duty jacket from the back of his chair. He tapped the console beside the door and stepped out into the long corridor, pulling the light jacket on, the threads of his Corporal strip glittering in the lights outside. He nodded to a couple crewmates as they passed, then made his way for a lift.

"Welcome home, Ash," he muttered.
