Chronic Sleep Paralysis, A Documentation

Apr 18, 2006 11:00

I've been having episodes of sleep paralysis on and off for about 6 years now, but I'll never forget the first time it occurred. I was in 8th grade and I was in my room about to go to sleep. It was around 1am. I slowly drifted off to sleep like usual, and at some point in the night I awoke. Everything seemed normal, the fan was creaking overhead ( Read more... )

That has happened to me before. And you're right, it is a horrifying experience. As I remember it, I was just about asleep, when I felt this horrible sensation that I was being watched, so I opened my eyes and in the doorway of my room was a huge, looming being. It was completely engulfed in shadow, but I could see the outlines of it's form and very faintly see the freakish feautures of it's face and eyes.... All I could do was stare and it stared back without blinking.

Um, yeah... didn't really need to share that but I did. Woohoo! I had never heard of sleep paralysis until I read this. I just thought that I was so tired I was seeing shit.

I've only experienced sleep paralysis once, and it was this year actually. The morning that sweeney and I were supposed to leave for Austin for Explosions in the Sky i thought I thought that i heard him come into the room to scare me awake. My eyes opened and I tried to turn to see the door but my body wouldn't move. I sat there for about a minute or so somewhat shaking trying to move my body and then jumped up suddenly..it was probably the wierdest thing that has ever happened to me.

possibly can.

That has happened to me on pretty much a weekly basis for well over a year. It used to happen when I was 14 to 16 then it stopped till not long before I turned 20.

It has only happened once where someone was with me. One time I was taking a nap with Casie (this was actually about a month ago) and I had a dream that an old man and I entered a pact where I was promised prosperity. I was granted a loving wife, a family, and a home where I could live peacefuly. One day the old man betrayed me and took everything from me. He was actually some kind of evil spirit almost like a japanese Tengu. He began to laugh at how he had tricked me and then he turned into a hideous figure of shadow and scales with golden eyes. In my dream I couldn't move and tried to scream but found myself voiceless. Then suddenly I was able to scream and my own scream woke both me and Casie up.

The worst was the time a pale face floated above me while I was paralyzed...

(sorry, had to break it up cause lj wont let me make super long posts)

About this time last year I just did my best to not sleep. Sleep was never peaceful and always resulted in nightmares. I don't have nightmares as often anymore, but I still suffer from sleep paralysis. I've almost gotten used to it.

I've been obsessed with flying since childhood.
Although I'm sorry about your situation
I would give just about anything to feel like I'm floating and be conscious of it.

I've been able to do that many times. It often only lasts a brief moment. It always comes unexpectedly for me. But I've heard that if you want to make it more likely to happen if it doesn't happen to you is to constantly do reality checks. Like for several days or weeks, every few minutes try and become acutely aware of your surroundings and make sure you're not dreaming. If you do it enough it'll become a habit and you'll start to have dreams where you do just that and then you will possibly gain partial conciousness and enter a lucid dream state. I dunno if that works though.
