I am having problems taking pictures that are not grainy. I am not sure if it is because I have a bad camera (which I don't think I have, even though it is cheap), I'm not a particularly experienced photographer, or because it is too dark here, all the time ( Read more... )

I am not particularly experienced with cameras, no, I'm trying to learn more though, I love taking pictures^^

That looks like the kind of noise you get from using a higher ISO setting. You're probably still not using enough light. I have the same problem a lot of the time. I got some daylight compact fluorescent light bulbs and they help a lot. Here's a post about them on DoA. More light will give your photos more contrast and more depth too.

I love your Uma so much! <3 I'm always happy to see your photos.

Thank you too! I am going to look into this! I feel kinda stupid, really >_< I'm also going to see if I can get those light bulbs.

I know I used to little light though, I really can't take picture in the afternoon/evening here, this time of the year as it is completely dark.

Also, thanks for the compliment:)

Great seeing Uma again. ^^ Yeah it sounds like your ISO setting is a bit high.
Also in Photoshop there is a setting under Filter/Noise/Despeckle which can
get rid of noise, grain etc. in your image.

Thank you:)
I'll take your advice and check it out later! My friend, Skumring, who is a photographer fave me some neat tips on how to make my pictures look better, but I forgot most of it, since I have the memory of a gold fish (if they in deed do have bad memory), also, those pictures were taken outdoors, on a rather bright day, so the issue there was more the colours being a bit dull.

When I get home, and settled, I will definitely try and set up a set with more lamps, then use the program thingy I downloaded and look at that filter, to see if I can produce better results.

Thanks to everyone for being so helpful!
